A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What do I have to change if I go to a dyna ignition from the oem electronic spark advance?

Does the 82 have an electronic advance?

Most do. But I've seen '82s with the mechanical advance stock.

There are some factory mongrels out there -- I guess Suzuki liked to use up all their old parts before switching to the next model year parts.

Not positive but I think the 1100E model had mechanical advance in '82. The Dyna S application lists that model so it's a safe assumption.

I have (3) 82 GS1100GLZ(s) and they all have electronic advance. I installed the Dyna system and coils on one of them. Didn't find any advantage. Selectable spark curves, maybe good if your running nitro and need a retard curve. The rev limiter was comforting. I used the little pigtail and a ground wire to prevent "unauthorized" starting. Other than that, i think the advance curves offered less than the stock configuration. I took Dyna off, including the coils, and went back to stock.

Yup, G model '82 bikes (1100 and 850) have electronic advance, but 1100E has mechanical.

Dyna S has one big advantage over the stock ignition (with mechanical advance), a brand new kit costs $120 and includes the signal generators and replaces the ignitor. OEM ignitors alone cost several times that much $$.

I just checked 1983GS1100ED Mechanical advance

I just checked 1983GS1100ED Mechanical advance

I have one ???. I guess it could have been modified by the PO, and it would be hard to tell one way or another. I do have an earlier 83 model apparently by serial # on the engine while I do have the 24 bolt cover.

The only other ignition changes seem to be the accel yellow coils. So I guess the Dyna S is still in the cards in case my ignitor goes out.

I did the Dyna S mod on my '82 1100E and it has the mechanical advance. Pull off the timing cover and look. If you see springs then it's mechanical.
