A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

82 GS1100G Project

Hi Salty, Bunyip here again, just to confirm with you, you recommend the Ninja EX650 calipers, GS550 front brake rotors and a set of your brackets and I should be good to go or stop better in this case. Do I need certain year models as I am not sure if the bikes here in Oz would be the same named/model as the U.S.A.

Cheers for your help.
Carl

You either need the late 80’s Ninja, the Kawasaki concourse or for the newer caliper you can use Vstrom 650 or EX650. There are a lot of choices.

if you send me pics Or links I can tell you if they’ll work.

I would definitely recommend Honda CBR F3 or F4 or VFR rotors over GS550 but they will work. Again if you send me pics/links I can tell you if they’re the right ones.

Hi Salty, I too am an ex pom, born Birmingham, been here a lifetime now and loving it, can you let me know how much your brackets are and how you like to be paid for them, cheers.
Carl

Hi Monk, I clicked on the link but I can't see what the brackets cost mate, I am very interested in getting them, I have cross referenced models and makes for the calipers and now know what I need.

Cheers
Carl

Hi mate, the bracket kit arrived today and I would like to say they are top shelf bud, I have got a pair of EX650 calipers coming, I will update the master, get braided lines and try a set of SBS RS brake pads, I am looking at getting a pair of Arashi rotors, any hoo thanks again champion. Carl

Good stuff, thanks Carl. Be careful of the bracket bolt to rotor rivet clearances and also check the clearance of the speedo drive dust shield to the fork leg.

Cheers,

Dan

Aloha Dan! Nice work, my friend. I'm so glad that bike didn't rot away - it was killing me to watch it deteriorate.

Things are great here in Hawaii and I got lucky with a really good job, so hopefully I'll be staying for awhile. I got new clubs and was playing a lot of golf, but then picked up a tennis racket and that changed everything! Maybe I will start playing again in a month or so. I also realized I wasn't out exploring as much as I wanted to be, so last week I picked up a new-to-me Street Triple and am happy to be out riding again =D

Here's an old pic of the '82. I'm not sure when or where it was taken - the long pipes and the engine guard make me think it was when I first got it, probably before I realized how bad it was leaking and smoking! I rode out about 2 hours to see the bike, with a trailer, and of course there was unpredicted rain as soon as I got there. I remember smelling oil and wondering about it, but I didn't have time to really evaluate it. Sure enough, I got it home and found the PO basically rebuilt the bike with RTV and no new o-rings! Also they cut the baffles out of the stock pipes so it was stupidly loud. I had joined the forum just before, and you all helped me start rebuilding it - some of you even helped me 'finish' it at one of the rallies!

...and a pic of me putting it together at the rally:
