If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

it runs like new!!!!!!!!! Very well cared for I thought I had a GREAT bike.

But after I went to a local bike nite a few days ago I am freaked.

I spoke with a guy that said I would be lucky to get 30k miles out of this bike...that the engines were JUNK...said they didnt oil good and the motor would not last. Said he thought there was a shim fix or something but even that was a waste of time!

WTF is he talking about? Now I want to sale the bike and get a CB

BULL SH*T, my 1980 GS750E has 59,000 miles on it, never been into the motor There is a simple shim upgrade for the oil pressure. I've never done it, haven't had too. It's all in the maintenance man. Valve adjustments, Oil changes, etc etc. Tell those guys they haven't a f**king clue what they are talking about. Keep the GS. Some people....

Dont u have the 8 valve engine? I think he was only talking about the 16v engine

Well they mostly last forever like any other Suzuki, all of the 1980 GS 750s I have had ran flawlessly for many thousands of miles. If and when it fails the 1100 engine bolts right in.

Win Win situation. The guy you met is a moron.

Of all the Suks, the 1980-1982GS750E might be the weakest link , and the main bearings do tend to cease, but mine had 58 thousand on it when I sold it and due to oil leaks in the bottom end I split the cases. The bearing were not perfect but certainly not a problem. You can shim an oil pressure relief valve to increase he pressure.

It is just occurred to me that the oil pressure relief valve might even be the problem??? One way to make sure is put a pressure gauge on it and see how your pressure is running. I had the 1981 as my first street bike and it ran very well and for a big bike was great to cruz around on. Not really for the highway like an 1100 is, but for around town nice scoot.

After a repaint

Mains at 58K Miles

Mr Bill has the 16V.

Sounds like that individual you spoke to has never owned a GS...either that or he exaggerated some minor problems that owners didn't know how to fix.

Ed

EDIT: Nice Bike, btw. I dig 750s.

How do I fix???

Thicker oil will build pressure better, I would run 15w-40 Shell rotella if it was mine.

Do most of u think it will be OK? to like 50k if its maintained...i really dont want to sell it

And would the 15W-40 be better IN THIS bike over the T6 rotella

If I had one of those bikes I'd do the oil pressure relief spring mod ASAP. There are a LOT of those engines that suffered oil related failures: spun crank bearings, scored cams/rockers, and completely wiped out heads/cranks. Do a search and check for threads in the archives if you don't believe me. Also talk to someone like blowerbike (Terry), I believe he worked in the business for many years and will tell you the straight dope.
