    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello All,

Digging into the electrical, cleaning connectors, grounds, ect. Got to the connectors under the coils and they are both pretty much toast with broken wires, melted a bit, stuck together, ect (explains the jumper wires the PO ran). Anyone know the part number for these? I've seen the link for Vintage Connectors on here and would like to replace them so the wiring is right (less jumpers).

Also I am considering getting new coils as these look to be original and may be suspect, not sure what ohms I need.

Last but not least I'd like to do the coil relay but the auto parts store only has the relay not the base to hook wires to & plug the relay into, where can I get the base?

The coils are 3 ohm for an 82, electronic ignition. They may still be good, but replacement Dyna Coils (the green ones) are in the $140 range new (for the pair).

All you need is the relay. You put blade connectors on the wires, and plug each individual one up to the relay. If you want to get really fancy you can put in a modern spade fuse block on the bike and run your hot coil wire from one of the extras there instead of using an inline fuse.

Not the foggiest idea. The electrons don't care what the connectors look like. The connectors from Vintage Connections should come with both halves.

Good idea. The green 3 ohm Dyna coils are that which you seek. Z1 is a good source: http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=210
Make sure you get a set of plug wires as well.

A good online source for relays and the sockets cheep if you can't find them locally:

The five pin socket works for both four and five terminal relays -- you just don't use one of the wires.

However, I usually just crimp and/or solder 1/4" female spade terminals to the wires with heat shrink covering them and hook them up to the relay directly. Simpler and saves space, although you have to be careful to keep the wires in order if you ever need to change the relay.
 
Hi,

CLICK HERE for some research done by member Joe Guilbeau about repairing your wiring harness.

The molex type connectors are pretty standard. Just get the same configurations and the matching crimp connectors to replace what's necessary.

The green Dyna S coils are most recommended (3 ohms).

You should be able to order the relay base from just about any online auto parts vendor. You need a Bosh style 4 or 5 terminal socket. Try partsexpress.com for inexpensive parts (click the pic)...



I didn't use a base for my coil relay mod. I just used male/female spade connectors. I did use a base for my turn signal relay replacement.
