A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Postings to the For Sale and Wanted sections will be deleted 90 days after the initial posting date if there has been no activity to the thread in the last 7 days. This is done to eliminate dead posts from the forum.

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

82 Kat looks tired but price dropping, now $3,3300 SoCal (not mine)

Not a huge fan of Katana's but that is a great deal....especially with stock exhaust included.

Price has been dropping steadily. I just don't have room now. But if it goes even lower I may be tempted. I had an '82, it was a super nice bike when I finished it. What a torture rack, even with nice rebuilt Fox shocks replacing the stock ones, which I remember were panned by the press. The seat was rock hard, and even in my 40s, the stretch to the clip-ons was severe, and the bike was uncomfortable

Hard to believe it was 22 years ago.

I hated them back then and still do...Distinctive bikes? Yes. Weren't they the very first actual "Crotch Rockets"? Thinking the fastest 1000cc production bike for its time (real world, not sure about magazine tests) plus the most uncomfortable bike to ride for anything more than 25 mi... Of course just my opinions.

I would like one in my garage. Not to ride, but just to look at. When they came out I didn't like them at all, but now they're interesting classics.

She is rough for sure, good candidate for custom work, aka inverted forks, 17" wheels ect... the hard part will be finding replacement parts to get it back to new, best you can hope for is fresh paint and good looking aftermarket stuff/modern stuff.

They may have been the first of the Jap big four to come with clip ons. Their 'radical' styling would eventually become standard for all sport bikes. Remember, this was 5 years before the GSX-R.

Just thinking these were a little before Honda's Interceptors, Kawa's. Ninjas, and Yammys FJ's. Wasn't the GSX-R after all of them

The Katana came out in 82 here and the gsxr in 85 here....3 years apart. I do believe you are correct about the Kat being the first Japanese bike fitted with clip ons

I had an 86 GSXR 750. The first year it was available here in the US. I think it was released in Europe in 85.
