A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

'83-'85 GS750E/ES, 700E/ES squeak

Moron. That's why it's squeaking. WD-40 is a water dererent, hence WD. It is not a grease.

'dererent'? Really? Ahahahaha!
1) Moron. Making an enemy of someone for no reason is pretty stupid.
2) No, fool, that's not why it's squeaking. It was already squeaking. The WD was an attempt to stop it from squeaking.
3) 'dererent'. 'Nuff said.
4) WD-40 isn't a grease, but it is a lubricant. As is grease. Look it up.

While were at it lets have a look at this.

http://www.wd40.com/about-us/myths-legends-fun-facts/

Some guy: WD 40 cures arthritus!
Another guy: NO WAY MANNN, weed does.

Anyways, who cares its true WD40 shouldnt be used as a long term lubricant because it is not, espeically on machinery and CAN cause damage versus a different type like I prefer; triflow. Where do you live in SD?

Neither WD-40 or Triflow is the correct lubricant for rear suspension bearings, grease is what's needed.

I was talking more along the lines for sustaining no squeak, especially in the bushings, not to be used in place of grease for bearings. Howeverrrrrrr, triflow does make red grease for such applications under their motorcycle category.

That's a little strong to be talking to a new member like that don't you think?
crikey ir drunk and heck that is copping a serious attitude.

if its in the spring how to fix it/

does not the spring have a shim?

amen tear down inspect and lube
spritzers are for confused people adulterating wine!

Indeed, it's the only way to post. Dererent typo fixed to deterrent, my apologies. Point stands that WD-40, as said by Nessism, is the wrong product to use. And again, my apologies if I think it's a bit moronic to think that it is.

I am pretty certain it is the spring, I had my swingarm off, and relubed along with all new hardware when I restored mine and it still squeaks. I did not replace my rear shock and it has gotten worse with every ride.

Joe,

Did you regrease all the linkages as well as the swingarm bearings? In order for the shock spring to make noise there must be some metal on metal rubbing.

Ed,

Yes, When I had the swingarm powder coated I greased the swing bearings for sure, I actually never had the shock completely off.

The spring could be sitting over to one side in the cup & touching on the plastic insert inside......

Could also be the pivots on the shock assembly either top or bottom. :)

I know this is an old thread. I searched for "squeak" and lo an behold, I find that what I have is common it seems. I'll be pulling the rear apart this coming weekend to grease everything that moves. Anyone have any additional advice not covered in this thread?

Well that was a chore! I pulled the swing arm, shock, and linkage. Cleaned all of the bearings really well, and greased them. They were all dry, and some were a bit gritty. The swing arm bearings were the worst offenders. I could make them squeak by sticking a finger inside the bearing to turn them while cleaning. By the time I was done with the bearings, they were moving smooth and quiet. Put it back together, torquing everything to spec. No more squeaks! I feel confident the rear suspension will stay quiet for a good long time.
