A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hey guys, does anyone know if the ignition cover on the right side of my '83 GS1100 is supposed to have a gasket between the cover and the engine case? There isn't one on my engine, and the partszilla.com fiche doesn't show one. The cover is part number 13 in the pic below. Just thought I would double check, thanks. -Ed

Thanks but I'm talking about part number 13 (for some reason my original post was not showing the text for the part number 13 that I had typed in, and my text was replaced with a dead link).

Part number 18 (stator cover gasket) and part number 3 (clutch cover gasket) do not apply to part number 13.

In the diagram you linked to, I'm asking if there is a gasket for part number 13: "COVER, CONTACT BREAKER, 11381-45412", and it does not show a gasket in between the cover and the crankcase, which seems odd to me as there are critical electrical parts in there.

It doesn’t hurt to have a gasket there just to help keep dust and moisture away from the ignition. I made one out of a cereal box. There is no gasket shown for my bike either.

Ok, thanks guys. My GS1100 doesn’t currently have a gasket there, but I may add a cereal box one as suggested just for the heck of it.

Be as well to. It's main function is to prevent moisture ingress, which can only be detrimental in the long run.
