I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

A couple of questions

Okay so I have a couple of questions. The first one might be stupid but I'm going to ask it anyway.

1. In my other thread where I was asking what to do next, a couple of people said I should clean the oil pan and screen. Well I went looking through the service and clymer manual and can't find any mention of an oil pan or screen. So do I not have one or do I keep missing the page?

2. I need to replace the carb to airbox boots but it seems suzuki has replaced the stock part with a slightly larger one meant for the 1000's and 1100's. Another user posted about the problem here. I'm just trying to figure out what my options are?

Thanks
-Theo

The screen that is mentioned is seen by pulling the oil pan off the bottom of the engine. You will then see the screen covering the oil pickup. Kinda hard to miss, it's about 3 inches across. :D

With any luck, it will be clean, but it's always a good idea to check it when you get a new bike to make sure that lack of oil is not going to be a problem.

Cleaning the pan goes right along with that, as you will have to pull the pan to check the screen. Sorry I did not get any "before" pictures, but here is one pan that is already halfway clean:

I does not take much to clean, this is just kerosene flowing through the brush, and it's taking the gunk off without moving the brush:

Here is what the pan should look like when it's done:

Don't forget to use a new gasket when you put the oil pan back on.

.

Did mine on a 30K mile engine, and the littte bits of crusties in the pan, and the beginnings of a gunked up screen made me glad I did.

Ok thanks for the quick help. Now how do I get the cover off. I've removed all of the bolts except the oil drain plug and I can't get it off. Does the oil drain plug need to come off as well? And any thoughts on my second question? Thanks
-Theo

Nope - drain plug comes off with the cover. Just double check you've got every bolt out and then gently tap the cover with a soft headed mallet; I bet it's just stuck on with the gasket.

Ok well I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is I got the cover off. It turns out there was still one bolt left . It was hidden in the middle of the cover, under the oil drain plug. The bad news is when I removed the pan, there was a loose screw hanging out. Please tell me that this is where suzuki keeps their spare bolts in case you lose one. Below are pictures of said bolt. Any ideas where this goes? Thanks.

Dunno where it goes, is it a 6mm diameter?

BTW, good thing you found it

What do you mean by it was hanging out? it was havin a party in there or something?;)
I had my entire '82 750 apart and I dont remember that one.
maybe it was left in there when it was last buttoned up:confused:

It's a 5mm screw. The PO was in the process of rebuilding the top end when I purchased the bike. Could he have dropped a screw and it made it's way down to the oil pan? I'm getting real nervous now. I thought I was all done with this motor and now this. I hope someone can figure out where this screw came from. Also, I do have a bike in my sig. Its a 16 vavle 1981 GS750L.

Ya, when I was replying I couldnt see the sig, thought you didnt have one.
I was trying to remember a bolt like that, but most/all were phillips down there. kinda looks like a clutch spring bolt (not long enough though), but I dont think it could get to the pan from the clutch area, so something being dropped into the oil filler hole is out too. If it was dropped down from the top end cam area, you are lucky it didnt get tangled in the chain/crank and get ground up. Is the bolt painted like an outside bolt or bare metal like it was from inside?

It's unpainted. There are two bolts that look identical to it that are screwed into the bottom of the engine, but there's no other spot for this bolt to go as far as I can tell. I'm thinking I might have to completely disassemble the engine just to find out where it goes :(. Chef has had his engine apart many times. He would most likely know where this bolt goes.
