A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Greg, find out for sure what grit to use between coats, or do a test run on a piece of scrap sheet metal and see what works.

So the plan is to use Lacquer paint from bare metal on up? Lacquer paints are a hot solvent and you might get away with the finer grit papers between coats. I really don't know what to recommend as I haven't used it in eons.

There are better paints now-a-days that you can have put into spray cans. ;)

There could be better paints but there just ain't the $$ here to do them. The GS650 turned out VERY nice as will this oneJust happy I have a lot less bits to paint this time round;)

Ohhhh Greg!

Ohhhh Greg!

Do you recall your thin gold pinstripe comment?

Lookie what I just found...

Yes I do.Thinking either a black or gold pinstripe.Vinyl stripes are getting hard to find up here these days.Only Canadian tire seems to have them and selection is limited to say the least. My talents as a stripier are almost as limited sadly:(

OK white's done.Did all of the bits so there is no colour change from the white to the gray of the primer.Sitting in the shed for a bit then I will do the red. After that a month to let it really cure out then a good coat of 2K clear.

Oh yeah I painted the red to.Have to touch up the white but overall I'm happy.Ride tomorrow fell though so I guess I'm mounting tires.

Rodger that Greg.

I had it stuck in my mind that the rear you had was a 17". I remembered the conversation about the decal stating the bike had 18" rears on it but I had forgotten your rear mag was 18" as well.

Never mind the man behind the curtain. Carry on... :)

For some reason I think the alloys are off a 750.No good reason I just do.

OK this ain't working for me.Now what? Thinking I'd try spray enamel after sanding most of this **** off:mad::(

Strip it, you've got adhesion problems.

What materials did you use? How long did you wait before applying the top coat. If it sat any length of time, did you sand the primer before applying the top coat?

If it were me, prime it, shoot the tank red and let it set for a couple of weeks. Then you can make a pattern out of paper to use for cutting the white decal material and apply the decal using a wetting agent (dish soap and water) and a rubber squeege.

Top coat of primer was Plasti-kote Super Primer.I was told NOT to sand it,looks like bad advice right now.I'm sure we have seen white decal stuff but right now we are not sure where.Sounds like a better idea.Sometimes I just feel dumb.
