A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Air box question

I reinstalled the carbs today and when I was trying to tighten the clamps that hold the airbox to the carbs.....I began to notice that they wouldn't get tight enough to seal the carb to the box. They are made of a hard plastic type substance and no matter how much I tighten the clamps....it was still loose. So can anyone tell me if there is any sort of gasket/oring, etc that goes on the carb tubes to make the seal more airtight...or is this how it is suppose to be? I tried looking in my service manual, but struck out....

Thanx so much....Anita :-k

The airbox boots get hard with age and the clamps get stretched out when people over tighten them. There are also instances with Suzuki superceeded some clamp part numbers and messed up - the new clamps are too large. Not sure which applies in this case but the problem could be related to one of these. Good luck and hope this helps.

Anita it sounds like the rubber intake tubes that connect the airbox to the throat of the carbs has gone hard and will not squeeze down when the clamps are tightened.

These two parts are not that expensive for your bike. There is a left and right part as follows.

Part# 13881-44100 Desc OUTLET LH Price $11.48

Part# 13882-44100 Desc OUTLET RH Price $11.48

These details are from Alpha Sports so from another vendor they will be even cheaper than that.

With bad clamps I've cut old clamps and put them underneith the stretched clamps.
Or just buy new ones and new boots.

The boots shrink as they harden, so the become loose in the hole in the airbox too.

Replace..

They're actually a soft rubber. Since you referred to them as "hard plastic" I'm guessing that you simply need new airbox to carb boots.

Thanx to all who responded to my question....I have just ordered new boots and clamps from BikeBandit.com.....their prices were really good.....I also ordered new air filters for the bike as well....as that was something on my need list.....getting one-piece at a time closer to starting my bike!

Thanx again to all.....Anita

Congrats on finding a better price than Alpha Sports.

Actually, it's not hard to do, but you can still do better than Bike Bandit. :o

Prices for your airbox boots:
Alpha $11.48
Bike Bandit $9.57
Cycle Parts Nation $7.27

Many other suppliers on the list, but they tend to lie between BB and CPN.
