Just thought I would post a few pics of my project. The side panels are being cut smaller/modified to look less streamlined. The bike started as a 85 gs700es. I bought it for $150 not running and missing fairings so....
I maybe have $400 total into it, got a set of katana clip ons to be installed and will go with a electrosport gauge. Bike runs ok but I'm dialing in the jetting in 'cause of the uni pods and 4-1 header.
The 'can' is from a gsxr and yes it is huge, I may cut the length shorter.

Anyway, ask ? if you want.

Heres the led trailer tail light and mc blinkers. The tail light is waaay bright, good for safety. I modified the stock tail piece to 'clean it up'

Where did you get the taillight and blinkers? That is the cleanest tail section like that I've seen. How much were the lights?

Gotta say the tail is especially sweet. Nice look all around though!

<borat>I liiike.</borat> I've been thinking bar end mirrors would really clean up the look on my 700E. Nice to see them "in action".

What are you going to do about the sidepanel mounting area on the tank?

The modified sidepanels will cover it, I will post a pic when I finish paint.
As far as the tail light and blinkers, the light came from a trailer parts store and the blinkers from cyclegear. I recessed the light behind the panel to give it a flush mount look. I had to use an electronic flasher relay ($12 @ autozone, schucks, etc.) It works perfect!

Thanks!

I like that tail light... I'll have to keep that in mind when I make some mods to my bike.... after the next project is done.

Wow, that tail does look really neat! I do have an extra tail, I should try to mod it like that.. Did you fiberglass it? Where did you get the tail light, and turnsignals? or are they just reflectors?

What type of paint are you using? I'm thinking of painting my bike black as well and I really like the color you've chosen. Thanks.

Really Nice. I really dig the color. and the rear end, but I do love a good rear end.

Thanks guys!
I used cans of automotive spray paint (plastikote), in charcoal. I used no clear coat because I wanted it to have a matte finish.
As far as the tail section, I layed up some carbon fiber on a piece of glass to make flat panels. Then I cut it to fit to tail how I wanted it and layed up from the inside seams some fiberglass matt and resin. Tape the panels in place from the outside. Put the smooth side that was to the glass piece facing out, that way you wont have much finish work. I did use a thin layer of filler to smooth the CF texture out. I would use fiberglass instead of CF, I just happened to have some.
The lights are led lights, tail from a trailer supply store, blinkers from cycle gear.

Great looking ride! Agreed the paint and tail are awesome and different. Is your tail light LED as well?

My 83750ES is going to be somewhat similar... I won't be going matt though I don't think but it will be black. Mine is getting the GSXR treatment & 17" wheels with radials.

I have those bar end mirrors on my skunk.

Dan :)
