I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am considering making a trade. My 83 GS750E for an 81 Ironhead Sportster. Anyone have experience with them?

This sounds like a cry for help. Should we have a intervention? Just kidding, I don't know nothing about a Iron Head Sportster, but it probably has more value then a old GS.... This is like asking a wine drinker what their favorite beer is! Good Luck 🌞

Bad investment. They aren't worth much. Not to say that the 750 is worth more or less. Personally I wouldn't make that trade for any reason. For somebody else, I would only advise weighing the condition of the 2 bikes, and what you really want...

Depends on whether you want a bike that will go more than a few hundred miles without needed repairs. Or vibrates enough to loosen your fillings. Do you own stock in an oil company?

Can we see pics of both bikes?

I'll look at it tomorrow. My 750 is pretty nice, so the sportster will need to be too or it will be a no go. For me, the ape-hangers will have to go.

Needs about $500 to make it rideable
Lower bars, shorter cables, shorter forks, decent exhaust

And, you want this why?

And, you want this why?

The original reason I bought my 850 was because I wanted a project. The 850 has been "done" for a long time. I love riding it and I will be keeping it. The 750 was bought as a project too, but I never intended to keep it. It has been for sale since July. When I put it up for sale, it was to make room for a new project. If an old Harley isn't a project, then what is?

There's a difference between a project and a money pit

If it's a project, that's another thing. I thought it was to ride as is. And then I saw the photo...

What I was picturing, complete with dirt and rust, was something that I can't even find a picture of on the net. The basic configuration of the exhaust is correct in my book, though those pipes look a little...empty. I was probably imaging a '70's staggered shorty dual, with the "equalizer" pipe and some sort of subtle mufflers.

I don't like the forks, nor the high handlebars. And Harley air cleaners, particularly Sportsters, in my book should be the rounded rectangle.

How many cc's is it? How does it start, run, idle? Has the engine been modified, how many miles on the clock? If it's ride as it is, the other guy is getting the better deal.

Are you going to change it back closer to stock, or keep going in the direction of the PO?

You asked, so...

To answer the original question, we'll need to see a photo of you, so we can see all body piercings. And is your wallet connected to your belt with a chain?:rolleyes:

PS Forward controls? Not in my garage. I think the PO is a big twin wannabe.

Well, gaining a project does change the parameters a bit. That HD isn't that bad of a foundation for a project either. Thing is, as I stated before, they just aren't worth much. Even built up, and pretty. It has a few things to address immediately, like the bars, and forks. That entails all new cables, and lines. (you may get lucky, and he has some of the OE parts) At least they got rid of that ridiculous "peanut tank", that's a big plus. The pipes aren't a bad thing, as most people that may buy it from YOU, would dig the way it sounds. If it's 1000 Iron Head, used engine performance parts are plentiful, and fairly cheap. You can make it pretty fast with just a bumpy cam upgrade. Pretty easy to work on too. It really comes down to you. Is it the project you're looking for?

Owned '78 Ironhead for about 15 years. Liked it. Wife and I did our first date on it.
Rode it to Sturgis for the 50th, straight through from the Chicago 'burbs. Had a ball.
They can be dependable, just a little fiddly, but simple, very simple. And I like that.
At Mt. Rushmore:

When I sold it, (for more than I paid for it)

And some little details I added

Choke Knob

Probably never get another, but I don't regret my time with it.

It is a 1000cc. I like the idea of forward controls since I have long legs with old knees that don't like to be bent. As for the seat, I'll look for something similar to Baatfam's since the wife likes to ride too (If I go through with it). I'll be looking at it this afternoon.
