    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

  • In order to help others find info on a particular bike, be sure to put the year, make or model of bike that you are asking a question about, in the Topic Title. This will allow people to pass by posts they have no interest in.

Anybody here have/had one or ridden one? Impressions? Good, bad, even indifferent opinions welcome. Looking at this 2003 SV1000S. Does price seem reasonable at $3K asking?

The thing sure did get my attention, Frank. I thought about making an offer, but not for long, as I need another bike like a hole in the head.
 
Looks like an amazing deal Frank. Might need some bar raisers to improve the riding position though.
 
Wazz doesn't get on the GSR much anymore but he has one and seems to like it a lot. I have the SV650 and love it, 3 years plus and not bored with it yet.;):)
 
A friend owns one. It's quick, lots of low-end and midrange grunt, and reliable. It's not as nimble as the sv650, and I'm too old to be comfortable in that rider triangle for long. $3K seems pretty reasonable, depending on mileage and condition.
 
Thought I remember reading somewhere that the front cylinder suffers from potentially catastrophic oil deprivation if the rider rides a lot of wheelies.

Or maybe that was the TL1000? Not 100% sure on that one.
 
I'm considering a SV1000 myself, or the SV650 because I see like ten SV650s listed for every SV1000.
Been getting annoyed by the 0 torque from a standing stop I get from my GSX750F.
Looks like they got all the torque I like about my GS1100G, but weigh 100lb less.

Half the novice class at Loudon probably use the SV650 as their track bikes. Good low end to jet out of the curves on that twisty course. I tested one out a few years ago. Great bike except it was too cramped for my legs for day to day stuff. I bought the wee Strom with basically the same engine but in a nice all around package for any type of riding in comfort. The SV1000 might be unneeded power for the streets and most daily riding.
 
Yeah, looks like the SV650 is THE favorite track/race bike.
I was afraid it ain't got enough power on the straights because that's where a putz on a big bike will pass, then slow poke through the curves with you stuck behind 'em.
So Lurch your Strom is a 650? Seems you like it.

Pretty much take that SV650 engine out and put into the vStrom frame and package with a little tuning and gearing mod and you have a great commuter, x-country, mildly off road bike that will climb the mountain passes with all your camping gear...and a passenger if you can fit her on too.

IMO, the SV1000 is a great street bike. Good power, handles well, lots of fun. Don't confuse it with the 650 though. They feel very different. Both are great bikes, just in different ways.
