Any experience with Electrosport Industries ESR100 r/r???

I read a tutorial (don't ask me where, I've read SO much in the last week) where they show one being mounted where yours is.
They had some difficulty because of the cramped, confined space but were still able to solidly mount it.

When I get home I'll dig it up, since I printed it, and see if it has the link.
If it does, I'll PM it to you so you can go crazier --- with pics included, this time. :) :) :)

Jhoot,

I just PM'd you that link.
In case you don't get it:

Yes got it! Thanks, I've used that page before with my 'new' r/r I bought last year and it went smoothly, although I just ended up removing the battery box entirely. I went with Ricks r/r because a site I buy from here in Canada (fortnine) listed it as a guaranteed fit and i have pretty limited mechanical knowledge and skill (nevermind tools). Seems it wasnt worth it though and I will be going down this road again soon!

Well, the best of luck to you, my friend.

My new Deka battery arrives tomorrow & I hope to begin the process of elimination with it as Suspect Number One, as the one I have in there now refuses to take a full charge (off the bike) even after a 48 hour stint on my Schumacher motorcycle battery charger even when set at it's lowest amperage rate.

In all fairness, the Deka I have now sat without benefit of a battery-tender for an extended period of time at my old address --- a condo building with a steamy parking garage where they did not provide functioning electrical outlets.
I had to keep my two Harleys' batteries on tenders in a spare bedroom until I was ready to ride, then lug them downstairs & hook them up before hitting the road.

Before I could pick up a tender for the GS750, it was time to move, so I gave it an overnight charge & off I went. The Suzuki takes a whole lot more disassembly & reassembly to get the battery in or out.
I fabbed up quick-release side gates for the Harleys to facilitate battery removal --- take out two bolts & either battery slides out sideways.
With the Suzuki I had to remove the seat, airbox & right-hand side cover just to gain access to the battery. A royal PITA if there ever was one!

Well, in the end --- just for s***s & giggles --- I went with the Electrosport r/r.
My original pin connectors from the stator/alternator were still in excellent shape, so I decided to just go with what I had to see what happened...

Well, the r/r works like a charm.
It charges the battery to the correct specs without so much as a hiccup, produces zero heat & turned out to NOT be the POS that so many respondents claimed it to be.

Electrosport offered EXCELLENT customer service & tech advice, to boot.

So, if your r/r has gone south on you, know that there are options out there other than buying a used SH7775.

I do believe I'm going to try out the Electrosport unit once my new battery arrives on Friday.
If it doesn't work out, the worst that can come out of it is that I'll have spent some time working on the bike, familiarizing myself with the charging system.

BTW, I'll be snipping off those bullet connectors on both the R/R & the wiring harness to replace with some proper heat-shrunken male & female spade connectors.

The Shunt R/R's typically will burn up your stator (eventually). I'm a staunch proponent of the SERIES R/ R, but I also had a 1981 GS750EX and after appropriate wiring changes to the charging system, the OEM regulator seemed to last for at least about 5K miles that I put on the bike. So your free R/R will cause your to pull you stator cover and replace the new stator which is about $100. Is it 5K or 10K miles depends on how your ride it.

Spoken will a full measure of blissful ignorance.

Look, the entire motorcycle industry installed shunt R/R's, and most likely still does, and most of these bikes motor along their way for years trouble free. It's mostly the high power stators that burn themselves up when teamed with a shunt R/R. I've mentioned this several times here before but Kawasaki KZ bikes don't burn up their stators nearly as commonly as GS bikes and KZ's have a lower charging system output. It's not a coincidence.

So maybe 82tiburon will get lucky. In my experience if his stator is somewhat weakened that can even work in his favor because there won't be a lot of excess output that gets shunted back. I helped a local GSR member here install a cheap shunt R/R one time and the best we could get out of the system was 13.7 VDC, but that bike got down the road for quite some time that way and there is nothing wrong with that.

With the greatest of respect, please refrain from talking bollocks.

Ah, it's always GREAT to get such positive feedback.

I hope you're picking up on the sarcasm, because I'm laying it on pretty thick.

you are free to spend your money and repair your bike as you see fit, and I certainly don’t think anybody is trying to run you off. We can be a little grouchy, but certainly “try” to be welcoming. That said your recommendation to the board to use an ES r/r is really stepping into a Hornet’s nest.

Earlier you you claimed to want to be informed. So if there is any truth to that you could read the threads in my signature. (Especially GS Stator). ES has a long history here at the GSR and there is very little you are going to be able to offer in the way of advice (especially when that advice is largely constituted from talking to ES tech support). So finally bear in mind many member will object to what you posted as an open recommendation, myself not the least of the objectors.

If you are so fragile & easily offended by my simply stating what worked for me, don't feel obligated to read what I write or respond to it.
Have a Guiness & chill the f**k out...seriously.

It is really a shame when someone is so stubborn coupled with being so ill-equipped.

The forum is not your personal blog so don't expect to post anything you care without objection.

Don't go away mad, cupcake...just go away. :) :) :) :) :) :)

You two half-wits are the type that revel in making others who dare to disagree(GASP!) with your crap feel unwelcome here with your holier-than-thou delusions of grandeur.

Your first post was a question regarding the usability of that ES R/R and a good many people here chimed in with our experiences, which you have ignored. And realize, just because that R/R is working now doesn't mean it will continue to and that your stator will live long term.

Hmmm. I have a hard time to decide where to begin.

Basically, You are out of line. Far.

Learn to voice your disagreement and demonstrating your argument properly, or you won't go much further in life.

A similar position re. series/shunt has already been stated in this thread by other members, in a proper adult way.

Also observe how people respond to your posts compared to how you respond to people.

If you want to have the insulting way instead, I could ridicule you to no end about your battery situation. So don't, and I won't.

Nobody is mad and that statement is uncalled for.....You have run into GSR's " Do it right or don't bug us " syndrome. Nobody around here knows more about electricity on a motorcycle than Posplayr. Especially the R/R. He has even conducted polls of members experiences with a specific product. I rarely understand him during an electrical discussion and instead just do whatever the Puck he tells me to. Like you I have an Electrosport installed seven years ago before the members had a chance to straighten me out. But I know if Posplayr tells me my stator is at risk by doing so there is a NEW STATOR AND R/R in my future. So I'm not going to " tout " what I did in the face of the reality of what is the best route to go....

I'm not seeking anyone's approval or recommendations, I simply stated what I did to resolve my problem.

If you guys can deal with that fine, if you can't...well, that's a personal problem you're going to have to reconcile with on your own.

But you haven't resolved it. All you've done is what every GS owner used to do and fitted a standard reg/rec.
It will bite you on the ass when you least need it to, as most have found.

Gee, that's funny --- because I rode my original '80 750E from Florida to my naval deployment at Coronado Bay in California, after ditty-bopping all over Texas saying my goodbyes to friends for three months & NEVER had Problem One with the original charging system.
Yet you're all convinced, without ever having tried one, that the improved Electrosport unit will absolutely fail & take the entire charging system with it in one fell swoop.

Sounds very petty, pompous to a fault & incredibly arrogant (not to mention, stupid) to me.
But that's to be expected from people who refer to themselves as self-proclaimed "mentors" and "sages", I guess.

So I guess every other swinging dick out there without a Series R/R has their GS sidelined, huh?

Tell you what --- you worry about what you do or use on your bikes & stop crapping kittens about me & mine.
Have a nice day.
