I found an OEM windscreen for my GPZ.. errrrr I mean "GS ES" :)

Does anyone know a good brand of polish that can remove light scratches? Thanks!

you gonna think this is odd but, brasso and a soft cotton cloth does the trick.

I guess the standard answer is now supposed to be "do a search". :D

OK, it's a Google search this time, parameters are "plastic polish".

Novus is one brand I have used with good results. Three grades for three different degrees of polishing. #3 is almost like rubbing compound for painted surfaces. #2 will put a decent shine on it, #1 is a light touch-up product that is about like some of the liquid car wax products that have a micro-abrasive in them for polishing.

Along with the plastic polish, you are going to need a lot of elbow grease. That, of course, is available from the wonderful folks at KaleCo Automotive.

How bad is the windshield? If you can feel scratches with your thumbnail, you will never get it all out, but you can minimize its effect on your vision.

There are also a bunch of new products to polish your plastic headlight lenses. One of those might do the job, too, but I would try it on an area where you don't have to look through, in case it leaves swirls. :(

EDIT: Dang it, Griffin, you just post too quickly. I was busy looking up all those links and you beat me to it.

I second Griffin about the Novus Polish. It really works great for windscreens, and gauge lenses, as well as signal lights. It actually leaves a nice protective finish after its applied as well. really good stuff!!

I have also used turtle wax polishing compound which is a little less abrasive than rubbing compound, for severe scratches. Good luck

Novus Plastic Polish
Thats all I use on airplane windows (acrylic). Plus the Novus plant is right in my back yard. Be careful if your plastic is Polycarb. Novus 3 or 2 can can turn a polycarb helmet shield cloudy. Check out this place.....and look at Top Kit Picks

True. Normally you have to live with a scratch or polish it and live with a distortion.

Meguiar's products work well.
I use Mirror Glaze #10 on my face shield and have used mirror glaze #17 when I needed something a little more aggressive.
They advise on the package that if major repairs are needed to call their customer service line for guidance...800-347-5700.
They also have a web site...www.meguiars.com.

I would have gotten my post in even quicker if I had just posted, "Do a search". ;)

Never mind us Clam, we're sharing a semi-private joke.

Don't worry....Even though you ride the GPZ and not the GS anymore, it's still a fair question!;)

FYI- I test rode an '87 Ninja 750R this morning, price is cheap, and am tempted to buy it. It is rocket(100+hp at 430lbs), but the front end seems a little twitchy with the stock 16" front tire (18" rear) compared to all my GS1100E's....tire was good, front end moves freely on centerstand, so maybe it was just me leaning on the h-bars too much,...and BTW, yes, I let my 1100 go!:(

3M makes a Pink scratch and fill in glaze that works great.. and a micro glaze as well for a finer job.
BTW it also does a great job on paint (what it's actually made for) :)

Thanks guys, I ordered the Nexus #3 and #1 polishes, as one of the scratches seems a bit deep. I'll post up some pics of before and after ! Thanks

Follow up.

The OEM windscreen was definately scratched up. I started out with the #3 deep scratch remover, and started polishing. Wow, what a TON of rubbing required to start getting results! However I was starting to notice a definate difference. I all of a sudden realized I have a 3" cloth polishing pad that is attatched to my right angle air grinder that I used to polish up clear coat painted surfaces. I started working the #3 polish with the 3" wheel and wow, what a difference (and quick and easy too). It took about an hour to remove 95% of all the imperfections from the screen. I was able to remove all but 2 scratches. Bottom line is if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, it's NOT coming out. Lastly, I used the #1 polish and wax with the wheel for a quick polish, than hand rubbed another session with the #1 polish and wow the windscreen looks fantastic again! The Novus polishes exceeded my expactations !
