It reminded me of BKXC 50 state shred. Before the shutdown he was on a trip to ride his mtb in all 50 states, usually including some local history.

Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

I went for a ride yesterday. It was 70 degrees and sunny, with just a slight breeze. Absolutely perfect riding weather. I rode my 850L about 70 miles round trip, mostly interstate. I wish I had time to burn a whole tank but the sun was going down and I was already late for dinner.

I rode with a friend that knew all the fun 270degree round exit/entrance ramps. One intersection (?cloverleaf?) could take all four exits/enterances as many times as wanted to.

I think Joe Nardy got pulled over by the cops for doing that in ChicagoLand. It's a great way to practice right-hand turns
I crashed my 750 on a cloverleaf in 1982, with a Michelin M45 on the back, after a brief rain that dried, but left some oil/water in the middle.
Wearing Levi 501's and a ski jacket, the bike slid away from me...me sliding on my butt upright in a seated position, watched the bike hit a low yellow curb, both wheels hit simultaneously bounce up, land on the hood of a Ford Escort, fall back off on its side, still running in 3rd gear.
Got a ticket too, for failure to remain in control.

I went for a ride today, I wanted to see if the spades of seven inbetween the simmering and the fork was enough to cure my front suspension. It would appear it did. This was also a landmark for me and the bike, we hit 1000 kilometers! First of many I hope. I was somewhat cold today (why did I think riding in negative temperatures wearing jeans was smart?).
I chose a route through a narrow and bumpy road. I bring my students there if they don't understand the concept of slowing down before the corners. Lots of blind corners, bumps and narrow all the way.
I was trying to get a photo to show the scenery, its like 4-5 feet of snow for miles through the valleys and up the mountains. Sadly its not easy to park safely and often the places I can stop has too much snow next to the road.
I also went to Kve?ya for a little trip, to see the mountains better:
I now realize I should have photgraphed the crazy bridge to the island (the one the bike is standing on), its one lane and swirly.

I teach children how to drive cars and mandatory traffic, first aid and driving in the dark courses. Today I sent in an application to teach cars with trailer and securing cargo for light vehicles. But Im trying to get approval for everything (next up is snowmobiles). In the future I want to teach bus and trucks.
That is fantastic. You have a great skillset!

I have not. I am in the process of getting my bus licence and will have to drive a bus for three years before I can teach it. Ill also get the truck and semi and commercial licence. Whenever schools are allowed to teach it. Licences are quite expensive here.
So my plan is to do both teaching and driving a bus (bus driving is like 2/3rds of my salary so I need more). I think I can do two full time jobs for three years though. And some of the classroom stuff to drive trucks Im allowed to teach, which I will start with soon.

This trip was yesterday. I hope thats okay.
Ill start off with a picture:
Yesterday I did the longest motorcycle trip of my life. The longest one on this bike. And I went somewhere I've never been before. I went more than 600 kilometers (372 miles). The trip was from Harstad to ? (i Moskenes), and back, with a detour.
I woke up way too excited at 6 AM and started packing the bike. I used the ratchet strapped duffel and some XLMOTO saddlebacks (they were garbadge and was removed at the first stop). When it came to start the bike, the clutch was dragging and I couldn't get it to run. I was soo frustrated my trip might not happen. It was possible to drag it out of the driveway so I did, and waddlefooted my way down the street while trying to start it (but not before I dropped it forgetting I took the sidestand up). I got it in second and eventually it fired (was bellow freezing during the night, and it wasn't far above freezing at that time). The time is like 7:30, and Im not meeting my friend until 8, since Im worried about stopping and not being able to start. I managed to get him to hurry and off we went.
Weather was okay for the first few hours. Cold, cloudy, but bone dry roads. When we go over the higher elevation area we see snow. And its snowing quite heavily in the direction we are going. I consider turning around but we ultimately decide to keep going (it was 3 degrees celcius or something, so it takes a while to get snow to not melt when it meets the pavement). After a short ride we get stopped on the way into a tunnel, we were told there would be a 15-20 minute wait and that it was snowing significantly more on the other end.
When we get out of the tunnel (its more than 6 km long), its sunny! We go to Svolv?r, do some of the stops, and get to ?. We were planning on doing most of the stops on the way back. We stop in Reine for dinner, and keep going, doing the stops along the way. Eventually I get tired, its like 2pm and Ive been riding 350-400km. I tell my friend we might have to skip Eggum (a 15 km detour) and just plow home. But when I see the Eggum sign I am like: "Ill regrett not going there." We go there and there is this amazing gravel road through the park to a parking lot. The ocean on one side and mountains on the other. I read there was a bird observatory tower there so we hike for miles to find it, but we didn't find it. I didnt really mind, the views were amazing. Im really glad we went.
I found the tower later, it wasn't in Eggum, it was next to the road somewhere else entirely.
Going home was fine for the first part. But the last 90 minutes were threatcherous (however that is spelled). The temperature was around 0, it was cold, I was worried for ice, and it was getting late.

I am glad I got to test my limits and see the bike is reliable for long rides. My front fork leaks again, I think its leaking some oil here and there, and a ratchet strapped duffel bag makes it awkward to climb on and off without having the flexibility of a ballerina. But the bike preformed well, it used slightly less than 5 litres per 100km (47 mpg), which is quite impressive.
Edit: A large portion of my trip followed one of the 18 scenic routes in Norway (lofoten): https://www.nasjonaleturistveger.no/en/routes/lofoten Youll recgonize some of the places there where I stopped.

THat is good to hear, longest trip of your life.
I might go 37 miles at that temperature (behind a big fairing).
THis is the 6km tunnell?
THe hiking trail in the park looked great.

After it dropped to around freezing it wasn't as enjoyable. But you only need 37 farenheit to be comfortable (41 is a luxury).
Yes thats the tunnel. I was feeling pretty bad standing around there, it snowing, the girl telling me it was worse on the other side and worrying about cold tires driving through snow. Looking at that picture I need to figure out how to get the muffler clean.
I really loved that park, hiking in my motorcycle clothes was warm though, I should probably have changed into normal clothes before doing the hike. Next time Ill go further.
Yeah, it was fun, and challenging.

That makes a lot of sense. There is a ton of german war remains here. I couldnt quite figure out that structure.
It is really pretty here. Your link makes me wonder if Eggum is even better later in the spring.
Pulled the Bandit out to do 205 miles today on my way to Columbus OH so I could pick up a new to me zoom lens at a used photography store. I took the slab on the way out but did take a little longer way home although I still couldn't stop and smell the roses. It's supposed to storm all day tomorrow so hopefully next weekend will be a bit nicer.
