Anyone need some "Pearl Shinny White" paint?

I have some extra paint that matches Suzuki's 16D color code - "Pearl Shinny White". This matches my '83 750ES, plus other bikes, but not sure exactly which ones. Includes a base coat and pearl coat. This paint requires a clear top coat which is not included.

I only need a small amount of this paint but the paint dealer only sells in 1/2 pint sizes. If anyone needs some of this stuff please let me know. Hate to see it go to waste.

Ed

Color is a little hard to see from this photo but hopefully you guys will get the idea.

That washing machine looks like plain old applaince white to me not "Pearl Shinny"

Bikes look good though.

I believe the pearl white he was referencing was the water heater...:)

My bad, I like the decals on the water heater also, very racy and informative in a utillitarion sorta way.

Does it match the 85 ?

The '85 looks like regular white, not Shinny Pearl White. There is a guy selling an '83 like mine in the For Sale forum, check out his photos so you can see the color better.

Not sure but the color chart shows there is a pearl white in 1985 but it's a different color code. Maybe they are the same but not sure.

Ed, I MAY eventually like some of that. I have to have some parts on my 1100ES reshot (for some reason, probably the SAME reason I would repaint it, some of my plastic is a slightly different colour than the tank) But, its subzero temps here right now, no chance of getting it shot where i would have it shot this time of year. Lemme know what that runs, i may be interested in purchasing some of that from you.

Slightly OT.
Ed where did you find the x-ref chart for the color codes?

I am looking for 08D and 10U to have some base coat mixed up.
I have this info... http://www.troli.no/suzuki2.htm

but because of this post... http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showpost.php?p=920878&postcount=1
your info may help in researching the paint mixtures.

Hey Dale, the color info is in the parts fishe. One way to tell is to look up the front fender and/or gas tank - the color code is in the part number although it can be somewhat cryptic.

That Color-Rite info is good. It might be easier to just take a side cover or what have you down to the local paint shop and have them match off of it - that's what I did.

Going to paint my front fender and spot-in the tank today so it should be interesting to see how good the match is. From my experience you can not expect the paint to match exactly so it's best to just spray the entire part.

Josh, I paid $80 for two 1/2 pints. I'm expecting a goodly bit will be left - enough to paint an entire bike or two. We'll see. Finding someone to help offset my cost would be nice.

Finished the tank and front fender today. Tri-coat paint is a lot of work; had to spray a white base coat followed by a pearl coat before the clear. Lots of gun cleaning and a lot of coats...with waiting in between each coat.

Fender was a total repaint. Used two pack PPG epoxy primer first. The tank needed some rust repair on the bottom edge so used POR-15 paint to seal the raw metal after I ground off the rust. After that it was epoxy primer followed by the base/pearl/clear. Wound up redoing all the pearl on the tank since that was easiest. Of course, cleared the entire tank as well - used PPG urethane 2010 clear. The Pearly Shinny White paint color match is good. I'm happy.:)

Looks great Ed :)

Did you mask the red before you hit it with the pearl?

Very Nice Work

Very Nice Work

Ed,
Yea I know how much work it is but with quality paints it sure lasts so makes it well worth the effort if you can find the time.

Wow..this looks really good! I want to have ny entire bike done, I got a quote of $800 includes new decals plus shipping of all the parts.

What kind of sprayer did you use? and how much was it? I am trying to weigh all the costs....did you mask off the decals?

great job man!

Yea, masked off the red. For a complete repaint the masking would be on the white since the red would go on after.

To paint I use an old 2hp/20 gallon compressor and a couple of touch-up spray guns - one for primer and a second for the regular paint. Harbor Freight has some good prices on compressors, or there is always Sears. My "good" gun is a Sata Mini-jet - I paid a lot of money for that thing. You can get knockoff copies that are pretty good for much less - look for the Astro brand. Harbor Freight also sells spray guns for cheap.

Paint is not cheap if you are thinking about doing your own. Figure on $100 each for primer/base/clear for materials - you will have lots of extras though, enough for several more bikes. You also need a spray mask, glasses, sand paper, etc. Labor of love to some extent although $800 sounds like you would have room to buy all the tools + paint and still break even or even come out ahead.

Good luck and let me know if you have any specific questions.

Ain't it the truth. Honestly, I'm not that good but these modern two-part paints and a spray gun allow even a hack like me to get professional results.

What I want next is a sandblast cabinet and a powder coat oven. Some guy was throwing out a gas range the other day and I almost snagged it for curing powder coat. I read that you need an electric range though so balked a little and someone else took it. Some day...:)
