All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.
A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.
A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.
Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.
Bugger Simon! I was hoping this was a US thing, but I guess not...
Only just started reading this thread . Sorry .
Just checked the Avons on my '77 GS750E and sure enough , the rear is "cracked" (more like SPLIT) . The tread has long splits going around the tyre (down in the grooves) . Scary stuff . I'm fairly careful with checking pressures so that's not an issue . $hit tyres that I'll never buy again . Pity , because they felt very planted , wet or dry .Bring back the Spitfire II's please .
Cheers , Simon .![]()

Reports of cracks in the tread area are something else entirely. This suggests many possible problems, including carcass design, raw material problems, and contamination of non-tread compounds in the tread rubber. Would it be possible to post a photo of these cracks?

After reading these threads, I took my roadriders back to the dealer. Switched them out for the Dunlop touring elite II. The problem for me is that my back is a 17 inch and Dunlop doesn't produce that tire anymore in the Elite's. Love these tires as I have 300k clocked on them over the years on 2 GS1100's. Usually get about 10K in the back and 12K for the front.
1100 E or L ?
Did you have the RRs mounted yet ? I swapped Dunlop 491 Tour Elites for the RRs and there was a night and day difference. Long story short the Dunlops sucked. The Road Riders gave me so much more confidence in the corners and wet roads they put the Dunlops to shame. People tell me the Tour Elites are HD tires. Ive got a nearly brand new 491 Dunlop RWL front you can have.

Those are bead/sidewall cracks. I'd like to look at the tread cracks.
I'm working on it .
I've been to busy having a $hit load of fun (can you have to much ???) . Sorry .

I've got Battlaxe BT45's on the 'S .
Not as good as the Spitfire II's (can't get them anymore). When you're getting down near the wear bars on the BT45's , they're gone .
But better than the Avon's .
Pete , I get my tyres from a "car" tyre place .
It takes a week or so (because they don't keep a big range) to get the ones I want but they beat the bike shops by about $40 a tyre , fitted .
Worth a look .
