DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi Guys & Gals,

I am new to the forum and found your excellent site while searching for information on Avon Roadrider tyres and the issue of cracking sidewalls.

I thought you might all be interested to know that this problem still seems to be an issue with recently manufactured Avon Roadrider tyres here in the UK.

In early summer I fitted a brand new Roadrider to my other bike, a K******I 750 (My other rides are a GS850GN and FJ1200). The tyre was fitted with a proper tyre soap that I have been using for many years and have used on many tyres. The tyre did not come into contact with any contaminants.

After about 3 to 4 months I noticed the sidewall was cracking, and not just a little bit. The cracks were definitely not there when the tyre was mounted on the rim as I always inspect any new tyres fastidiously before fitting. The manufacture date on the tyre was June 2010.

As soon as I noticed the cracking and became aware of it being a well documented problem I replaced the tyre with another brand with no further issues.

Unfortunately the supplier I purchased the tyre from had their premises burnt down at the time. Due to this and a busy problematic family life at the time I decided I could not be doing with the hassle of chasing it up and so chalked it up to experience.

Anyway, I hope this is of interest to some as it seems Avon may still have not addressed this issue fully, certainly here in the UK.

Cheers,

IGS

Mr.IGS, Welcome to the GSRs ! You can just add info / comments to this thread. Its kind of the unofficial "hows your Road Rider" log. Dont need to start a new thread. If you have your reciept for the bad tire (tyre) I would pursue a refund. Hey, its a 100bucks.

I'm sure you'll watch your new tire like a hawk

Put the Bike to bed for the winter. Inspected the new Tire which I probably got 1500 miles on. Saw no signs of cracking. This is where I was a year ago and when spring came around it was cracked. Ill give it a look-see in a month or so and report. BTW....its 5f here. Still wondering if its a cold temp related issue :-k.
