A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

 Hey all, I have found some great assistance in here from the members who had offered assistance, My Shop Mechanic at local dealer told me that A new 4into1 header and upping the carb jets to match the header specs would run Me around $600. I am wondering if anybody knows where I can find header for a 1982 GS650E either V&H or Kerker, Prefereably Black not chrome. for a reasonable price?:!:

Your, (my), best friend is the internet, but I don't have many friends. Just my opinion

Can't help you with your search, but I'll be the one to open the can of worms.

Are you looking for a particular look?
Do you want a particular sound?
Are you looking for more power?
Are you merely trying to reduce weight?

Looks are subjective. Some people like the 'unbalanced' look of a pipe on one side, others don't.
The smooth sound is great, just keep the baffle in and most everybody will be happy.
If you want more power, a header does not add too much by itself. Maybe 5 hp or so.
No question that a header is lighter. That will increase performance almost as much as the horsepower gain.

Any way you look at it, though, you will have to re-jet your carbs when you put on the header. If you retain your stock airbox, you will need different jets than if you also add pods (individual filters), but you will still need larger-than-stock jets either way. If you do the pods, too, it is helpful to to a Dynojet kit, which includes different needles, as well as jets. This will add over $100 to your project, and is something that MUST be done to keep your engine alive.

Just something to keep in mind, in case you have a limited budget. :o

a period gs650 header is almost impossible to find.

You might as well get a MAC or stay stock.

I recently purchased a Vance & Hines exhaust system that was 4-1 and came off a 1985 gs700. The headers are black and if they fit shoot me a pm and we'll work something out!

On a side note; does anybody have a 4-1 header preferably in black that will fit a 1981 gs550lx? Are there any headers from other yr/model that will fit this bike?
