    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Big Fork Ears for a GK

I am removing the frame mounted fairing from my GK for a trip this June. I need a set of fork ears to mount a headlight. The only ones I have found on the web are too small--up to 38mm. The GK fork is about 43mm.

If I got deperate enough I suppose I could weld up something from a couple 1 3/4" pipe clamps, but I was thinking there must be some other bikes out there with thick forks. If there is a Harley model with them that would just about guarantee there is an aftermarket fork ear made for it by someone.

go to google and write in old bike barn.click lighting,then brackets,they have them for 41mm forks which you have on your gk.i got them for mine,the only thing you will have to do is drill holes if you want to install flashers.

Don, I talked this over with a few parts vendors at swap meets (read: Harley folks). An option I am told is top (or is it bottom?) mounted lights that mount to the triple trees. I haven't tried this yet, and not sure how it's done, but I am told there are advantages and disadvantages to it.

Disadvantage: they can loosen up over time with road vibration

Advantage: You can adjust them for different conditions like fog any time you please.

So far, in my searches, I haven't found any ears over 38 mm, either, but I'll check out these links, too. Thanks for bringing the question up!

Well, I will be able to report on the effectiveness of whatever I end up using when I arrive at your barn. Loosening from vibration is not a big worry as I only need it hold for a thousand miles or so, all Interstate.

The ears at old bike barn will fit. It looks like you have to drop your forks to mount them. And $45 aint cheap for something to use one time. I will look for the top/bottom mounts you mention and let you know what I learn.

Well, if you do end up buying the ears and they work, I'd want to buy them from you if I don't have anything worked out by then. Just a thought. Also interested in what you find out about mounting to the triples. I had a guy show me some options he had, but that was obviously without the bike present to see if it would actually work suitably.

I'm in no rush with the GK, it's going to be my special project that I customize along the way, at a pace that free time and ideas allow.

Don, another alternative is to do what I did after my Bambicide 5 years ago. I got a triple tree from my parts bin, an old GS850 triple tree. Got some GS850 forks from a friend, and now my GK has an 850 front end, which works fine. The triple tree fit perfectly in the frame. I also needed an 850 fender to go with the narrower gap between the forks. The same GK calipers are on, but with GS850 mounting bolts.

By doing this, you'll be able to use regular fork ears.

Nick, I remembered how you did that and that you were satisfied with the results. My situation is a little bit different. I bought a full set of GK touring plastic and brackets, including fairing, from Shirley (MissFabulous) that is currently sitting in her barn. Rather than have it all packaged and shipped, I am just going to ride up to her GS event in June with the GK naked and mount all the stuff there for the ride back. I am just looking for temporary setups for the one-way trip to Shirley's.
