Hi,

My bike has started running terrible when riding it. It will suddenyl stop accelerating, I can hold the throttle open for ages and then all of a sunnden will take off like a rocket.

I suspect it the Carbs so will be taking them to get tuned and cleaned. I ahve just bought some Pod filters and fitted them.. they look great but bike will not do over 30KPH :(

I know they will prob need the jets altering, I just wondered if anyone had any advice just So I know what I'm asking for please?

Cheers
Kev

Can't offer any jetting advice without knowing what bike you are working on.

I gave up looking through posting histories quite some time ago.

If pertinent information is not presented, I am very likely to ignore it.

If I am feeling good, I might point it out and ask for clarification.

Perhaps it should be a required step in registering for the forums to list your motorcycle and should be listed in the signature automatically for the new users.

Then again a few steps like this is almost like a test.

Sorry,
Yes its a GS1000G running GS1100G engine, Yeah ran fine, but running poor now.

I assume this is gs1000? Was it running terrible before you fitted the pods?
So, am I to assume that it ran fine before pods, or that you put pods on because it wasn't running well and figured pods would improve things? I'm easily confused!

It has been running ok but lately was running a bit rough at high speeds, you know that bit when you running out of fuel and you have to turn reserve on when riding.... a bit like that, i would hold throttle open and 60 and nothing then all of a sudden would zoom off. I think the carbs just need cleaning.

My plan was to get them sonic cleaned and set up, so bought the pod filter to get this done at the same time.

If I buy a DYNO jet kit will this solve it? and if so stage 1 or 3?:)

He will guarantee it! just ask him[/QUOTE

i will guarantee that a vacuum carbed GS bike will never be 100% with out the air box if you do not install a st. 3 jet kit.
the jet kit will not fix other carb problems.
there is not a little fairy that jumps out of the jet kit box while your sleeping and clean your carbs.

Yeah, somehow I think Mr. bikerzx knew all this already, but was hoping that fairy could wave his or her wand around!

knew I would have to re jet it, but didnt kno what stage, and never thought of Dyno jetting it.

You guys are worth your wait in gold :)

If you look through my previous posts I really am mechnicaly challenged

Coo sounds like a plan, anyone know where the best/cheapest place to buy a kit pleasE?

Try a search on the interneats.... you could maybe you use that really popular search engine Giggles... err, wait I mean googles... yea googles it man!

jet kits will help mask the problem a little but it will never run the way it is supposed to. The reason it does this isn't the fueling as much as it is the LOSS OF AIR VELOCITY after partial throttle opening (i just went through this ordeal with my bike-78 750). The air doesn't move fast enough to draw the proper amount of fuel into cylinder and that unresponsiveness is a lean condition. The reason the stock airbox works better than the pods is the velocity stacks built into them. If you want to ditch the bulky airbox you need to use a velocity stack and a filter of some sort.

I've recently watched the same argument on another forum.
An ex-bike mechanic said that the shop he worked at tried all different combos of pods on bikes and never really got the same result as an airbox and quality filter.

Lose the pods.
