Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hey guys, I have a 1982 Gs750t 16 valve engine. I recently changed tanks, (aftermarket tank) and went to a manual petcock. Bike cranks and runs good at Idle, but if i give it some gas it starts to shut down! Almost like its running out of gas. I let off the throttle and runs fine. The carbs have been rebuilt, everything is new in them and are rejetted for pod filters and 4 into 2 exhaust. It also has dyna electronic ignition. What do you guys think? Float level too low? Coils shutting down? Timing off? I static tested the dyna it is dead on on the 1-4 side. Had a little problem with the 2-3 side. The light came on right over the 2-3 and had not made it to the mark yet. Its not real plain to read on that side. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That...and how well are you letting it warm up?? Need some heat built up in the cylinders is what i find.

Where is the mixture screw set at?? Have they been vacuum synced and are the valves adjusted within specs??

Mixture screws set at 2-1/4 turns out. Carbs synced. Valves were adjusted at .005

I hope you meant .05 MM which is approximately .002 and not .005. At .005 , youre way out of tolerance on the valves. You would be more around .11MM which is above the service specs for valves.

Sorry, too many zero's. Yes .05 is what they are set at.

can't jet for pods with vacuum GS carbs.
you need a st.3 jet kit.
also...what type of filters?
possibly chrome emgo 28$ for set of 4 filters?

Sounds like fuel starvation, since you just had the tank off, look for a kinked fuel line...ask me how I know:rolleyes:
It does sound like its starving for fuel. No kinked or pinched line, I can see it from the tank to carbs. Petcock is working properly. The tank has a vented cap, it is vented to a barb on the bottom of the tank. Maybe i'll try capping it as well.

Run it with the fuel cap off to see if it's a vent problem.

You said it was jetted for pods. What jets are in there?

Your mains are too small - stock is 112.5. 117.5s are standard on the '83 bikes. I would have thought you would be well in the 120s. Plus are the needles adjustable? On our bikes they are, on the US bikes I know a lot aren't. You might be best to just follow Blowerbike's advice and buy a Dynojet kit.

Will she rev up with the choke on, or partially on?

Stock jets are 112.5, rule of thumb is up one size for pod filters, and one size for 4into2 exhaust. Might be one size under, but not enough to cause it to shut down like its running out of gas.
Have not tried it with choke out or partially out, will try later today.
