    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Bike starts up at full throttle and sticks there

Hello, i just picked my carbs up from suzuki two days ago, had a full rebuild. Went to put them on this evening they started up instantly, only problem is the bike started up at full throttle and wont come down

I check the throttle cable, its fine, the sliders are all in the right possition as well as the butter flys, from what i can see and check everything seems to be find, it just wants to idle at maxed out for some reason, lol

Any help would be great

The cable in the twist grip housing is likely jumped out of place and is bound open,

I have had this happen with carbs off.

It can happen without your noticing it.
 
Thing is the throttle its self is closed well this is happening, took a peak inside, its almost as if its stuck on choke, but i pulled the heads apart and checked them there not stuck, it just screams no matter what i do
 
unscrewed it the whole way that its not even touching the plate anymore, :(

Chance suzuki could've forgot to do something, or messed something up?

What a silly thought!
So you are sure that throttle plates on all carbs are just about fully closed? bench sync should leave them all barely open a sliver

And this confused me...

That really sounds like something being messed up during assembly in my not expert opinion. Just how much is 'all the way' though? When you start it does the tach shoot up to redline or does the bike just idle really really high. Can you idle it for more than a couple seconds? Does the throttle have any effect at all on it? What kind of carbs are they? What kind and year bike?
 
82gs 850 mikuni carbs, cant remember the mm they are though.

When i start up the bike it jumps up to about 7000 rmps if i hit the throttle it kicks in about half way and can go up to the red line. it will sit like this till i shut it off, at one point yesterday one time i started it it went up to 7000 then i gave it alittle gas and it started idle normaly for about 2 minutes then shut off

when i fired it back up it was back to staying around 7000rpms

and when i use the choke the rpms go even high
 
Take the whole bike if you can back to the shop, have them deal with their crap, seems they screwed up something....

this is one of the biggest reasons you will find on this site almost everyone will tell you learn how to do it yourself, at least you will know the job was done correctly, all O rings were done, all jets were cleaned, all gaskets were replaced and so on....

if nothing else take the carbs out, and visually check them, see if anything is binding, what are the butterflies set at, as a bench sync, does everything function as it should, choke operation, throttle operation, etc.....

it sounds like it's suck in wide open throttle somehow.....question is how and why, cable, idle screw, choke etc....

even after the shop did the work, you would still need to have the carbs syncd once on the bike, to ensure they are set correctly, if you don't have the tool, sounds like this shop will be doing more work for you......

i hate to take it back to em, but it sounds like your right, i can only do so much on myself, so ill give it another day of tinkering and if i can solve it sounds like ill be at there door tuesday morning.

My clutch cable got out from its guide once after I had the carbs out. When I put back together and I had opened the throttle it jammed and was physically holding the throttle wide open. Sounds like something is holding throttle open to me
 
visual inspection of the choke tubes will tell you if they're open or closed, but that wont cause your bike to idle at 7 grand.

disconnect the throttle cable, and make sure the linkage on the carb side isnt bound in any way, and that your throttle cable is sitting correctly in the throttle housing. A visual inspection of your carb installation - make sure there are no leaks in any of the boots, and that your throttle plates are open slightly, and evenly between all four.
