A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Very hopeful looking at that Pete :)

Cool! Was hoping to get in the garage tonight to do the static timing on the Dynatek and see if I couldn't get some measurements for you too, but still stuck working at the moment and I'm not even on call this week

That bike is in beautiful shape. I strongly suggest you leave it STOCK, including the intake system. Saves a ton of time trying to sort out the jetting plus increases the bikes value.

Are these bikes sought after? I had never seen one before I found this one. I will keep all the original parts on hand then but I can't face trying to get that airbox back in right now , ). Probably a good idea though(ahhh, crap!) The paint needs some work and I have seen decal kits for them so that will get done eventually. When I titled it the VIN came back that it was a GS 450S, not E but I will use BassCliff's decoder to double check this. I think the S's were black and red right? The only changes I plan on now are things that arent really visible, updated springs, refreshed brakes etc. PS: how did you get the picture to show up like that?

If you copy and paste the IMG code from Photobucket, it will show the pictures inline.

Scott posted the above earlier in the thread.

The silver 450's were quite common. Not valuable per say. It's just that pods suck as far as I'm concern (my opinion) and don't provide positive benefit (again, my opinion).

It definitely looks to be a mighty fine example of a stock 450...

I think with the airbox once you develop a technique you'll be fine.

I must admit though that I'm not following Ed's advice and am going to K&N's, but that's got more to do with my scrambler theme than anything else and I'm prepared for the fun/pain of tuning.

If I was keeping mine stock then I'd more than likely be keeping the airbox in there.

Actually there's a thought Ed! With all our guides on BassCliff's site, noone's ever put up a how to for the airbox's for the various models...

A how to on airbox removal/replacement would be great. It appears as though the previous owner/s managed to put some holes in it which they taped, and it took me about fifteen minutes and some muscle to get it out without further damage. All in all i too am prepered to do the work to put the pods on instead.

Beautiful bike. A fine example of what attracted many of us to riding in the first place. Simple lines, clean style

...it looks like it might be running a little on the lean side based on the colour of that exhaust pipe.

After reading through i figured that also. When i pulled the airbox the clamps were loose and the rubber rings inside the tubes were all messed up. The carbs are coming back off for a dip, new o rings and a jet kit and pods, and synch.

Something i noticed today, and i know this is the wrong forum, is an oil leak from the left front barrel/case gasket. Not a super lot. I have heard from some old honda guys of a product called newseal, whats the concensus on that?

Or you could be the first to write the how to on airbox removal/installation ;)

Oh, and Dan, regarding the original brake upgrade query I reckon it's worthwhile getting those measurements for you, so hopefully tomorrow I can remember to get them done.

Having a bugger of a week so far and haven't managed to get in the garage at all...

 Old age is a b*itch :D

I do that all the time too... not much hope for me - I'm not that old ;) :D

Measured at last!

First, I couldn't really measure disc outside diameter so I took this off a replacement disc's spec: 276mm.

So the measurements I took, and these are all on the left fork leg:

Axle centre to lower calliper bolt centre: 75mm

Calliper bolts centre to centre: 72mm

Outside of disc including the bracket that sits on top of it to inner side of fork: 35mm

Edge of wheel to inner side of fork: 41mm

Note my completely inaccurate measuring device (steel ruler) as I don't have vernier callipers at the moment unfortunately, so all these measurements may not be 100% accurate, but I'm guessing they should still indicate if your existing brackets will fit.
