I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

long story short: i replaced my engine after it failed with a working ebay one. but when i went to fire it up, the sidestand switch light came on. i soldered the sidestand wires together but the light still appears. is there anyway i can go further into the wiring harness to bypass this? i'm out of ideas sans ripping my harness apart. i'm pretty sure i didn't pinch any wires throwing the engine in (though it was heavy) or what might be causing this? can i bypass the gauge cluster altogether since it's pretty crappy to begin with?

thanks
tom

The sidestand light comes on when you complete the circuit. If I remember correctly the switch is a N/O switch (normally open) and switches on the negative (earth/ground) side.

Try cutting the wires apart again! :D

It's just a light it's not a cut-out switch (if it's the same as the 1983).

:)

looking at the 83 750 wiring diagram.

i tried both versions, unplugging the sidestand switch and then trying it with the wires soldered together. won't crank either way.

diagram reveals that SS is controled by Green with white tracer and black with white tracer, black with white tracer being negative to complete circuit. from the green with white tracer it goes to the SS bulb where the other wire is orange. this is where my knowledge ends.

just reread your post, i believe the 85 gs700 is basically the same as the 83 750 except the engine. if that's true then it is just a bulb which means that i have a short or something going on elsewhere. let me recheck everything...

Yes, clutch lever switch would be my next choice to look at. If you follow the pig tail back under the tank you'll see that on the backbone of the frame it connects in with one male & one female bullet. Very easy to simply pull the pig tail & connect the two on the loom together. I can't remember for sure but I think it's green wire with a yellow tracer.

By doing this you'll take out the clutch safety switch (so it will start in gear with clutch in or out so if clutch is out & gear is in then you might fall off... ;) :D )

Dan :)

Should my 82 1100 have this clutch safety switch? I ask because *someone* has hit the starter a couple of times when this bike was in gear without the clutch pulled and got a little "buck".

I'm not sure *who* would have been so stupid... but a safety wouldn't be a bad ide for me... er... him! :D

Yep, yours is disconnected or missing. Look under your clutch lever, you should see a two wire harness coming from the switch. It connects with two bullet connectors (one male, one female) in the main harness up in the headlight bucket.

:o totally forgot about the clutch switch. its been that long i forgot it was there. thanks
