A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

good work on the cafe build but where did you get those side mirriors i like them better than the clip on ones!

Those mirrors can be found on ebay or dime city cycles. I'm sure there's more places too....

Unless those are oberon mirrors. Those are a little more pricey.

Sweet! Great work, and I'd call that a cafe any day. Lightened, stripped down, tuned for speed. What else is there?

Here's my little 450 project. Turned into more of a brat cafe because I wanted the option of throwing my wife on the back. Still looking into possibly fabbing a removable cowl to maintain that cafe feel.

Not sure about the rear wheel. Was on the bike when I got it. Folks here say it's from a later shaft drive Kat 600. I couldnt tell ya. Honestly I didnt even notice it till someone pointed it out to me. Dont know what kinda mods were done, if any. Just recently swapped the rear drive for one from a member here and didnt notice anything unusual.

That makes sense. There was the shafty Katana 650. I really like those wheels, I think I may keep an eye out for a set. Thanks for the info, the 850 Cafe looks great!

Darn good looking bikes going on in this thread.
I've always said, "anyone with a basic tool set can restore a bike to original but it takes real imagination and work to make one into something it's not".
FTW!

Keep em coming.

Well this is still a work in progress and not strictly a cafe, but it's in the ballpark. It's an '82 GS1100G!

Damn! Where can we get all the nitty gritty details on this work of art? For starters, what kind of tail light is that?

Wow - thanks guys! (blushes) I am pleased that you like it! I love my bike and it's not THAT modded, although I did cut the rear frame off to add the little loop under the back of the seat. I also cut of a lot of little tabs that side panels and things attached to. The taillight is Japanese and I got it from Modern Motorcycles in Collingwood (Melbourne Australia). They have an ebay store and have some beautiful stuff. I got the indicators, taillight, headlight, rear fender and a few other bits and pieces from them via ebay.

Here's another view of the tail:

Actually I have replaced the taillight with a similar one in polished aluminium because I felt the rear end needed a touch of bling to lighten it up visually. But I may put that taillight back on - it's really cool.

love this thread

Nicely done, my favorite here, mostly because it has a nice look and retained a lot of originallity, hang that chrome front fender in the garage and get another one to paint, match the paint scheme of your tank and cowl, I think you'd be surprised at how much more pop it will have.

Im debating hacking up an L seat to make a half-pan and either weld on a rear hump ot move the ducktail forward. Shes a work in progress... but I'm not sure about a full-cafe strip down... The stock lines still look muscular.
