DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I am going to be painting calipers on a 1000L and have seen both the VHT and PJ1 aerpsol brands mentioned. Is there a preference between the two? Also, was the OEM finish on the calipers satin or flat, it is hard to tell from what is left on the calipers. I did not want to pull the pistons since they are fine but saw that the finish needs to be baked for the full chemical resistance. Has any one baked your calipers with the seals in, my seals are OK so I do not want to ruin them by baking. Thanks for any advice.

Stock finish is satin.

Pulling the pistons is easy and the only way to get alll the sludge out. It's worth the effort to do the job right.

Thanks for the response. Can you re-use the seals and boots or should I replace them? They are not currently leaking.

Replace them.

It'll actually be easier to replace the pistons with new seals anyway.

One other tip is to avoid the aftermarket (usually K&L) rebuild kits. They only include seals, and they're stupidly expensive for a few bits of rubber.

The OEM kit is cheaper and includes new pistons as well as new seals.

I like K&L for rebuilds and a lot of other things.

heat gun? ride the brake lever and heat 'em up??, no I'm kidding...

don't forget the caliper with seals is designed for temps above 300 degrees

the fluid sure is and it never touches the pads, the seals are closer yet right on the piston, which squeezes the pads --very hot--
