A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Can any of your guys identify this GS from this one crummy picture?

^Large image. Guy says it's an 1100 but I'm pretty sure the 1100's all had CV's. I've been too long out of the GS-stuff to know for certain, though. Looking at picking it up for a donor motor for my minibuggy.

My guess is 1979 GS1000L

Chain Drive, VM carbs

Combination meter is correct,

The plastic frame cover near front of tank to cover exposed frame because of small tank.

We know there was the one year 1980 16v chain drive GS1100L , so what 1100 came in 81?

Are you forgetting the predecessor to your bike? :-k

Let's not forget the '80 and '81 1100E with the "lunchbox" headlight. :encouragement:

And there was also the Katana, the GS1100S.

The 1981 GS1100GL has shaft drive, not sure if they made a GS1100L in 1981.

Should be able to verify it by the VIN number, 1981 and after would be 17 digit so he could have that checked to verify.

Given your normal completeness in answering questions are we to assume there was no 1981 8V GS1100L?

That would be (mostly) correct. You have to remember that none of the shaftie Ls showed the "G" on the side cover, only the "L". For example, my wife's bike says "GS850L" on the side cover when it's actually a GS850GL. Not sure why they did that, but they were consitent, NONE of the shaftie Ls showed the G.

The 1100 shafties appeared for the '82 model year, so they did start production in late '81. Some states look at production date or the date it was first sold as the year of the bike, so it can get confusing (hence the "(mostly)" in the first part of my answer).

The '80 1100L was a one-year wonder bike. It was the only 16-valve L bike. The next 1100L to show up was in '82 and '83 as an 8-valve shaftie.

In other news is that a Kawasaki wheel in that swingarm?

Point being if you buy this or do the guy a favor and take it for free, make sure you get all of the Suzuki parts.

It is. I'm looking for a large metric cruiser engine to replace the Suuki F8C 3-cylinder in my buggy and had an ad out. This guy says he's got this "GS1100" and a couple of KZ900's partially broken down. Lots of stuff. If it was an 1100 it's something I might have been interested in but being a 1000 and no really being complete...I don't know. Probably not. Would prefer to find a big metric twin, but thought it was worth at least investigating.

Didn't you post that yesterday?

At any rate I'm going to stick with the Suzuki G10 for now. I don't have the room to swap in what I really want until I can make a better cage..
