Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Can someone identify this swingarm?

  • Thread starter Thread starter Gs1000g
  • Start date Start date
Yea I got that, but it's square swingarm vs all the others I have are tubular. It is totally different than my other 1000g swingarm

Weird....

Been digging through some part numbers, and I don't think it's a substitution from a different Suzuki.

61100-45820-019 is the original part number for the 1979 GS850G, and the same swingarm is used on 1979-1981 GS850 and GS1000 G and GL models.

This superceded to 61100-45870-019 , which is used in 1982-84 GS850, GS1100 G/GL/GK.

Both appear to use round tubes.

81-83 GS650 G/GL used 61100-34841-019, but this appears to use round tubes as well.

Lots of other oddities in this one as well -- that long gusset on the left where the final drive mounts, and the longer, large-diameter tubular section where the u-joint inserts. On all shafties, the front gusset is all one piece -- from the curve in front of the tire to the pivot is one boxed-in piece.

I think that's a clue -- I'm guessing this is a custom extended swingarm someone built.

What's the measurement between, say, the center of the pivot to the center of the axle? Do you have the driveshaft, and does it show signs of being lengthened? (Or what's the driveshaft's length?)

I'm leaning towards Honda - looks vaguely like a cb650 nighthawk

The shock absorber mounts look very "honda-ish"

I guess the real question is will one of the driveshafts and final drive units I have fit this. Does anyone have any real concerns based on the photos of just running it? I will get measurements this weekend, the frame is at my dads awaiting powdercoat and having the side panel mounting tabs welded back on, someone has cut those off

^wow. I looked at approximately 54,792 swingarms on google and couldnt figure it out.

So is this a notable swap?

Cavalcade, GV1400.
I just looked at the swingarm fische on Alpha Sports and will agree with this suggestion.

Wow, thanks guys! now the question is if I should use this one or a regular GS swingarm

Maybe someone was trying to adapt on some GV1200 Madura spoke wheels? It would be an interesting conversion if you could pull it off.

Unfortunately I do not have any of those wheels looks like whatever I decide to do it's gonna have MAg wheels

I finally got to measure the swingarm, it is considerably longer than my dad's 850L swingarm. I don't think I'm going to be able to use it due to the length and I don't know if I have a driveshaft that will fit it. I will keep it updated though

I should have recognised that arm. I toyed with the idea of fitting a 'Cade arm, but wasn't able to find any info about offset and front width, therefore hadn't a clue how much modding needed to be done to either frame or arm at the pivots.
If that frame looks unmodded, the idea is back off the back burner and moved to the front again :)

That part of the frame is unmodified, it appears to be a direct bolt in. I have a Cade final drive, I will have to dig but I haven't found the driveshaft, and I have no desire to cut one and extend it. Do you see any benefit to having this swing arm over a stock GS swing arm besides being different? It is longer so the rear wheel will be moved but I'm not an engineer so I don't know if there will be any significant benefit to the swap
