    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Can the main jet wear?

I have got a GS400 which has run about 65.000 miles
I have problems getting de idle speed correct. I have checked and ajusted alle carb parts and all is according the manual. Is it possible that the main jet is worn and needs to be replaced by a new one or any other part of the carb (needle etc).
 
Yes I checked the pilot jets but could not get it idling on a constand low speed
 
In theory it is possible that they could wear. In reality, it is highly unlikely. More likely scenarios include dirty/blocked passages, adjustments (which you have been working on) and synching the carbs.

I totally agree with "The Kid". Replacing properly sized jets is usually a waste of time and money..but getting the carbs cleaned and synched is a 'sure fix' for so many problems.:-|
 
The main jets aren't going to wear from fuel flow. They can get plugged/varnished up from old fuel and dirt/rust though.
If your carbs have the pilot circuit feeding through the main jet, then the poor idling may be from partially dirty mains. It could also be several other things.
Dirty pilot circuit could do the same thing. Dirty carbs in general.
Mixture screws adjusted wrong.
Dirty air filter.
Poor spark.
Poor compression/burning oil.
You could be describing an intake leak too. Does the bike idle significantly higher from cold to hot?
 
Sounds like intake orings to me too.... One of the easiest fix's, but for some reason always neglected.

The main jets have nothing to do with your engines idle (or lack of). The pilot jets, and the air mixture screws dictate your engines idle.
You could also have a bad inlet needle and seat.

Thank you all for the suggestions
Conclusion for me is not to replace the jet. I have replaced the O rings a few months ago so no false air. I cleaned the carb too.

What I have not done yet is getting them synched. I will try that first.
