    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a 1983 GS850.

Does any one know what carbs other, than the Mikuni BS 32 CV's, that will fit this bike please?

The standard answer is "with enough time and/or money, anything can be made to fit."

What is your reason to change? :-k

The BS32 is known to work. It obviously has enough flow capability, as it's the same carb used (but with different jetting) on the 850.

The previous owner of the original bike had different carbs and pod filters, he put on the present carbs and the standard air box for the sale to me.

I can start the bike and it runs fine on choke but bogs down when I try to rev it.
She will run when warm.

BS32's in the UK are rare so I thought that a compatible carb would be the soloution.

What are these "present carbs"? Why did previous owner change back?
If it runs well when warm (no bogging), it might just need a good cleaning - ckoke and idle passages could be gummed up.
 
Fix what you have or find a set of 34CV's from a '80-up 1000.
I used them on one of my 850's for many, many years.

I don't understand why you would want to change away from the OE carbs. As long as the carbs are clean, have fresh O-rings both inside the carbs and on the intake boots (cycleorings.com sells a kit), and the airbox is properly sealed, the bike should run fine. Swapping the carbs to something different will still require a complete cleaning and O-ring replacement, and will require rejetting as well. Way more work.
 
Chris, if you need BS32s there's usually no problem getting hold of them. Yamaha and Kawasaki used them on loads of bikes as well as Suzuki. I think they maye even have made an appearance on Trumpets as well. Spacing won't be the same on them all though so you'll need to sort that.

VM32s will fit straight on (but you'll spend the rest of your life looking for them).

If she's already wearing the right carbs, like the guys said, a strip down, clean and rebuild with new rubber will get you sorted.
