    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Carb obsolete?

Hi i have a 1981 suzuki gs250t and im having probs with my carb.. iv been tring to find a new/used one so i dont have to go through the trouble of rebuilding it... but it seems that even the oem suzuki parts store doesnt even selll it because its "obsolete" .. how is it? I still need one to make my bike run? Does this bike share a universal carb with other bikes? Or should i jjust have it rebuilt?
Carb leaks gas and idols at 4k rpm.. cant seem to bring it down at all so is it the carb or something else?

Send it to Bill - Chef1366. You won't find a new one...

High Idle could be air leaks, suspect you have more to work on than just the carbs.
 
Even if you buy a used one, there is no guarantee it will be in pristine condition, and you're likely to have to go through it anyhow. Actually, it's almost universally agreed on around here that you will have to clean it.

Unless there is overt damage to the internals, a thorough cleaning and replacement of some of the rubber bits ought to do the trick.

Would you expect to walk in a Ford dealer and pick up a carb for a Model T? I think manufacturers are only required to supply parts for 10 years. Even if you find a NOS carb, it may need rebuilding, just from age. You bought an old bike, and you're going to have to work on it. Ask for help here, and listen. These guys have seen it all, and they don't mind sharing. I too suspect that there's more going on than the carb.
