A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Carb reinstall?Newb mistakes

After having the carbs cleaned and returned to me, I began to install them. Took over three hours, taking my time, getting them back on the boots, trying to get the throttle cable on AFTER I?d installed them (learned a lesson), got everything on and ready to put the tank back on...until I was prepared to put the fuel supply hose on. Geez...there?s no way to put it on and tighten clamp (air box in the way). DOH! Got to take it all off again and put the hose and filter on and begin the reinstall process all over again. These learning lessons are painful!
Pic of everything installed (except you know what)...

There’s the little gray fitting, all alone down there. You experienced guys have gotta be getting a good chuckle out of this!

I've done the same thing......a long time ago! If you have some very long needle nose pliers, 9 or 10" long, you can get the hose on and put a spring clamp on it!

... there’s no way to put it on and tighten clamp ...
Actually, if you use the proper hose (stock 7mm), no clamps are necessary.

Thanks for your help Steve. I just went to NAPA and got 5/16 fuel hose, which was what was on there. I assume I need to screw the clamp down pretty tight.

Success! Got everything put back and I’m good to go. I’ll post tomorrow after I have a chance to take her out for a ride.

Very happy with the carb rebuild! Thanks chef1366, for doing such a great job:). You were very helpful throughout, even repairing the original, correct rack of carbs (though PO had broken a couple of pieces), and returned the incorrect one that was on the bike previously (supposedly from an 81 or 82 SOHC engine)...I had sent both. As soon as I had everything assembled correctly, I started her up and she fired her up instantly (Bill had given me the tip to "draw" on the vacuum line to get the bowls to fill). I took her out yesterday afternoon on a beautiful, sunny 68 degree day south of Nashville. Smooth and strong all the way to redline. I adjusted the idle speed down and all was good. I did get a chuckle as I was recording a video and saw some smoke rising from around the airbox. On the "second" install, I had neglected to install the PCV hose on the airbox as I buttoned everything up. (DOH! Easily remedied). I haven't done any vacuum syncing yet, but again, everything seems to be running great. Noticed I have a lot more sound coming out of the left side exhaust now at idle, as compared with before (now equal to the right). Definitely corrected something there (I also did my first valve adjustment a few weeks ago, prior to sending the carbs out to chef1366). Thanks so much Bill!

Now I just need my new Bridgestone Spitfire S11's with RWL to be installed (I thought the RWL would give it a bit of a nostalgic look...for me anyway) and I will be good to go (the Shinko on the front is 18 years old, and has some serious cupping, with some dry rot cracks that run circumferentially down the center groove!)

Thanks all!
