DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Carb restoration service

I'm looking for recommendations for companies that do carb restoration. For my previous projects I used a company in the UK who do a great job of vapor blasting, ultrasonic cleaning, and even applying fresh yellow chromate to the hardware. Carbs come back looking like new. Unfortunately the mail charges for the beefy 850 carbs make this a non-starter.

I see several companies in the US offering carb resto services but wondered if this forum recommends one over the others? I'm looking for a good cosmetic job, as well as a functional rebuild.

All advice appreciated!

Mark, If you look in Nessism's signature, you will see that he also wrote the book on how to rebuild the carbs.

I do several sets of carbs per year, but I don't do much for the cosmetics like Ed does.
Mine are more of a function vs. appearance rebuild, although I do polish the caps and bowls.

If you are looking for cosmetic restoration (as well as function), Ed is the man to deal with. :encouragement:

Thanks for the responses folks, much appreciated.

Ed, I'll PM a photo of my carbs to you (as soon as I remember how to upload photos!!). Don't recall how much the company in the UK charged (AJ's Motorcycles) but it's not really apples for apples as those were carbs from an RD400 twin and a S3 triple. It's really the mail charges that make it cost-prohibitive this time. I'm originally from the UK and last time I was able to save mail charges in at least one direction as either myself or a family member stuffed them in their suitcase when crossing the Atlantic. COVID-19 has screwed that up now!

i just can't get used to calling them screws ... but that's the correct name :)

Suzuki had them with the captive lock washer and the dot in the head,
so i want the exact same.

CMSNL sells imitation, and the screws do not have the dot in the head.
Neither are the lock washers captive, they sell the screws and lock washers
seperately, and dare ask 2,5 euro for that stuff they buy for a couple of euros per thousand

I think 0.30 per screw is expensive but it's the cheapest option (factoring in shipping to NL) for
identical to OEM screws i have found so far.

Ed's work is always fantastic... I've been lucky enough to ride most of the bikes he's brought back to life :)
