    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Greetings All,

After a rather long spell without a bike, I managed to find one that I couldn't live without. Hopefully I can get it tuned up enough to put some miles on this fall:-D.
I have a couple of questions: The carbs need some attention. I think I'm going to attempt cleaning and such myself.(I have the carb bank from my crashed bike to practice on) Where can I get a manometer? More importantly: The mufflers are rotted through on the bottoms. Would they need to be replaced before I do the work on the carbs? I would like to keep the stock exhaust.

Damn shame about your first bike...and your body, which I'm sure didn't enjoy the crash. Same thing happened to me last year so I have simpathy for you.

Check the carb clean up series linked on the GSR homepage. http://www.thegsresources.com/gs_carbrebuild.htm

Replace all the various O-rings including those under the rubber carb boot runners. http://cycleorings.com/

For mufflers, if money is tight you may be able to use reuse your old crashed ones - have someone weld them onto your new headpipes. Otherwise you are going to have to search the aftermarket and/or eay. Check here in the for sale section as well.

You can not buy new OEM mufflers. You can cut the old ones off and buy after market ones for around $30 each (You have to cut the old ones off). You could try using muffler tape or patching compound, I have never done that so I cant say.

As for the manometer you can get one from motion pro pretty cheap thats where I got mine. Get the carb adjustment tool too. You will regret if you dont when it comes time to adjust #2. Mark my words;)

And make sure when you pull out the mixture screw you count the turns down to seated for each one and write it down. Again if you dont you will regret it unless you have or buy a colortune.
 
As for the muffler question...yes, you'll need to fix them first as back pressure or the lack of it will most definitely effect the carb set up. Good luck.
