    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Clutch hub movement

Clutch hub movement

Just installed my clutch hub and after tighten the APE nut with the torque washer and lock washer there is quite a bit of movement.... is this normal?
I have taken it on and off twice and cant see why?

I dont think there should be moment.
Took it all apart and the nut runs to the end of the thread..... used a rattle gun and moment?
help?
 
Right I have worked out what it is... its the steel insert in the clutch center.... how bad is this?
 
I had my clutch centre boss ground down, just about 10 thou thicker than the clutch hub centre. Helical cut primary gears make the clutch hub move in and out on the bearing.

If you have a steel insert in your hub and it looks like this then it's toast I'm afraid.


If it is indeed as UK GS NUT says (lateral movement and not the inner steel insert), you could try shimming it with the shims they used on the GSX1100 / GS1150 motors. They come in different thicknesses to solve the problem of lateral movement on the shaft and as stated above, caused by the fact that the helical primary gears are constantly trying to move the clutch from side to side.

And there is no need to panic too much. All these clutches make noise. The springs on the back of the primary drive plate rattle, the oil pump drives gear flaps about a bit (unless you have a fresh little rubber bung in there), the hub spacer is too large etc etc.

Just listen to one of those open Ducati dry clutches. They make a feature of all the rattling and people love it!

Yep steel insert is moving... toast is the word.
Its not as bad as in the video... will the bike be ok to do 600km trip?
