A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I need to replace the lower triple tree on my 81 650g. I can't seem to get one from gsr but was wondering what if any other models would be compatible. I ruined the bottom bearing and that's the reason I'm replacing. I can get bearings online, but for way more than I want to pay and I don't have a bearing puller. If someone reading this has an extra lower bearing on the cheap I would buy a puller. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

you can get a new bearing cheaper than you would get another tree. plus if you get another tree, whats to say the bearing will be any good, or not even on there?
bearings are cheap

you dont even need to buy a puller. angle grinder or dremmel and partially cut through the bearing, then whack it off with a drift and BFH. careful you dont cut into the stem itself though!

Even if you had a puller with enough reach, there's not a way to grab enough of the lower bearing to remove it.

Demolish the outer cage, remove the rollers and balls, then cut a slot in the inner race with a Dremel most of the way through (try not to get into the steering stem.) Whack the slot hard with a cold chisel and it will crack, then you can tap it upwards.

Will try cutting off old bearing but how do I install the new one. It's pressed on isn't it. Anyone have an old one lying around

I just put one on myself by putting the lower triple in the freezer over night and tapping the bearing on the frozen lower unit. Went on very easy.

Cool, that's how I did my wheel bearings. Guess I'll order some parts tonight

Freezer trick works great, Get a piece of pipe that will slide over the stem and give it a few whacks with a BFH
