I think dumping my airbox and switching to K&N pods is my next project.

Any advice on where to get a good price on the pods?

I have 4 into 1 pipes from an unknown manufacturer, should I go to a stage 3 jet kit or change the placement of the 3 position clip inside the carb sliders?

If I need to rejet does anyone have suggestions on kit options?

YES......stage 3 will be needed for the filters and 4to1 exhaust.......

Do a search for the PODS based on size......aftermarket can be had for a fraction of the cost and are found all over the internet

Size?

Size?

Anyone know off the top of their head what size I need? Do I go by inside flange diameter?

I think I like the "tapered oval" style. Opinions?

Go with the jet kit...save yourself hours of trial and error. And don't buy the cheap aftermarket filters (emgo, etc.). The stage 3 jet kit is designed for the K&N's. They breath much better. The filters you need are 42-44mm at the intake. The K&N part number is RC2454. BUT, you can also use the pod filters from APE. They are identical to the K&N's at about half the price. The ones for the VM's are only shown in the KZ section
http://kzzone.com/carbs.html you want the 055-122

Also, FactoryPro makes MUCH better working & tunable needles than Dynojet! Ray.

Ray, I just looked at the FactoryPro site, and I don't think they make anything for the VM carbs...at least I couldn't find anything.

Thanks for the advice guys

Will check those out bruce, 1/2 price sounds good to me if they are just as good!

I'll give the FactoryPro set a look see!

I questioned BigJay on those pods a while back. He didn't say specifically, but I'll bet they are made by K&N for private label. He said the cotton fiber inside of them are the same, and they use the K&N oil, and they are washable and reusable just like the K&N. Sounds like K&N to me!

I'll be buying a set for my Beast project. They also have them for the larger CV carbs, and the other size will fit my VM33's.

While looking up the DynoJet stage 3 kit on ebay I noticed this disclaimer.

"
Jet kits are available in several 'stages.' Stage one kits are for stock or mildly tuned (motorcycle exhaust and/or a high-flow air filter) machine. Stage 2 and 3 are for stock to moderately tuned bikes and offer an increase in top-end power gain and may compromise the 'friendly' day-to-ay powerband. The stage 7 kits are for radically modified bikes where the utmost in performance is desired. Some kits come with enough of a selection of jets that they are combined kits, such as 'stage 1&3' is both a stage 1 and 3 jet kit."

Do you think that this upgrade will noticeably compromise my low end performance and idle? This bike has pretty much turned into a daily driver for me.

The APE site shows the 055-121's at $59.95, It's not clear if thats for 4 pods or not. If it's 59.95 for all 4 including clamps and such, I'll surely get some. Wish I had had the cash on hand for the jet kit a couple of months ago while I was rebuilding the carbs #@$@.

My imaginary 1000 has pods, jet kit and 4-1 pipe. She runs like a sewing machine at all RPM's :dancing:
