    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So Im needing tires..and it seems the only garbage I can find for my 550es are scooter tires. Most are only rated for 112mph (not like I need to go that fast but I like durable)

The original Front wheel is a 2.15x16 and uses a 100/80-16 and the rear is a 2.15x18 wheel which uses a 110/90-18 tire. Anyone have any ideas what wheels will fit this bike so I can have more then 2 (bad and worse) choices?

If not..how about these questions..

Can I install a GS1100-1150es rear swing arm into my little frame without much welding or any welding. Im sure I could install a 1100/50 es front end but then Im still stuck with the 16" front wheel.

I like the 550 engine and I like the smaller bike but these tire choices suck.

Avon Roadriders AM26 come in 100/90-16, is that close enough? They have 110/90-18 too.
Excellent tires.
 
The 2.15 rim can take a 120/90 tire. Problem solved and yes, Roadriders are the tool of choice these days.

Yea I kept looking at the 100/90-16s. Then I looked closer at the size during a tire inspection and noticed it was an 80. Maybe its the old tires but I dont want to crown the contact patch anymore then I need too and make it more squirrely. Last thing need up front is a contact patch on par with a 10 speed bike.

Ill have to check if a 120 rear will have any fitment/rubbing issues. Shouldnt be any.

I have no problem leaving this bike apart during the winter (I dont have AGATT yet to the extent I want) to swap in some 1100 parts to give myself more choices. Id kinda like to leave it at least "period stock" but Ill make an exception for a 17" front wheel.

The 86 GS550ES came with a 100/90-16 stock
not an 80

stock rear was a 110/90-18
Don't believe me check the parts fiche
 
I don't know about the 550, but my '83 GS750 handled GREAT with the roadriders.

Yes -- what he said. The front is available in RoadRiders in that size, and a 120/90-18 is available for the rear, which should work fine.

The stock sizes are available in the Pirelli Sport Demon and the Bridgestone BT-45, both excellent modern tires.

People stuff all sorts of strange things onto motorcycle wheels just to make a buck and get an old tire out of the shop. You can't always trust what some PO put on the bike.

Nah I believe ya because thats where I read that too. I looked it up by make and model at a few places.

I guess this goes in the "retarded PO" files. What kind of idiot puts a super odd ball SMALLER tire on a bike?
