DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

De-stinking Penelope

Thank's Ed! Coming from you I know that's a compliment I can trust.

I will say, I didn't know what I was missing until I shot epoxy primer; I love the stuff!

I still need to fill the areas which were pitted from rust and hit those spots again. I wish I had a good mini gun; maneuvering a full size gun inside the frame is difficult at best.

Say the word and I'll pack up my Sata Mini Jet and DeVilbiss touch up guns and send them your way. :D

Ed, sure nice of you to offer the use of your guns.

it's a bit tight inside the frame with my Astro, yet still manageable. you just have to think it out. a picture of what it looked like just before I wet sanded it.

and, if I may be so bold, not too shabby for using a knock off gun with a 1HP compressor. :D

I de-greased the frame with a 50/50 mix of simple green and water (thanks nvr2old! ), then wet sanded the frame with 600 wet/dry paper backed up with a 3M foam pad. tomorrow I'll spot where I sanded though the epoxy and those rust pitted areas. then in three or four days I'll shoot it with epoxy and block sand one last time before top coating it.

just for you Andre...

finished my $1.98 petcock overhaul a few days ago. I think it came out well considering it was completely plugged up and corroded so badly I had to drill and scrape out all the passages, polish the sealing surfaces with 1K paper and reconditioned the tapered seat which was pitted (where the o-ring seals fuel flow), using a wooden dowel and valve lapping compound.

3~4 hours of work and it looks like new again.

Wash Primered and epoxied the centerstand for the '80 while I was at it.

Took a while to be sure of the Penelope reference.Minor quible, wasn't the point that she was not a skunk?

Picky picky picky.LOL

Couldn't call it Pepe' after all She's female.

Penelope she became...

It was a true skunk...The tank had been replaced by a blue onn e and reapinted. The seat trim and tailpiece were original and factory painted. There was some damage that we determined came from a possible lay down on the left sdie at one time. Theres no doubt in my mind it left the factory black and white.

The real Penelope will be mine.Look like a skunk (mostly)but won't be a "true" skunk.I will let Dale have the name though since he thought of it it's the least I can do:D

Greg, Neither mine, nor yours is a true skunk and I bet that you, as well as I, are glad of the fact they don't have a stink gland :D

(yes mine is a GS1000EC)

Greg, so what are you going to name yours?

I hear Penelope II is still available!!!!

We are calling it The Skunk.Mine is a GS1000"C".Have no idea where the E type wheels come from.BTW are yours 17" in the back, mines a 18.

Mines 17" on the rear. didn't the 18" mag come on Cooleys?
Hmmmmm...Not sure what is going on.Checked the wheel,2.15x18.Checked the neck decal,2.15x18.All I can think is a country difference. There are alloys with singles in the Gallery pics. Not to worried but it is curious.

Greg, the stock wire spoke rear wheel was a 18"...

Yes they are. Can't think how this has alloys though. Not 1000E wheels, seems like a lot of troble to put other wheels on this.Suzuki Canada does things diferently sometimes and this might be one.

I used PPG's 'shopline' direct gloss urethane (SSU) instead of PPG's 'concept' direct gloss. I'm pleased with the way it covers. I guarantee the frame will look nice when it's all painted. well, that is if I don't screw things up!

again, fresh off the gun... (I need to use a booth!)
