    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Unbelievable story but some guy gave me, as in for free, a 1980 GS1000S exhaust system. It's in very good condition, with a few small scratches here and there, except for one unsightly dent. I tried to pull out the dent with one of those hot melt dent pullers, and even tried epoxy glue to attach a different type of puller, but the adhesive won't stick to the shiny metal. It also wouldn't be easy to get behind the dent unless the end cap inside the muffler was cut out.

Any one have any good ideas?

Someone gave you that set for free???????? what kind of carma is that?? there's a guy that's local here that blows them out with heat and compressed air. He says it works well but can leave a heat mark.
 
find a oldtimer bodyman that lives where there is some hail. most of them can use a torch to pop out hail damage and it dosent even effect the paint.

WOW those look excellent!

have you checked into spot chroming yet? then you could use a stud welder to remove it.
 
Try heating and slapping an ice cold wet rag on it. Might pop it out. If you have a heat gun, I'd try that first before a torch.
 
Ive seen a dent popped out by heating the metal with a heat gun then spraying that canned air stuff that you use to clean keyboards and such on the dent, but turn the can upside down and it will spray the liquid nitrogen (?) and freeze it, then let it warm back up on its own. I dont know that it would work on that but its worth a shot I guess. Personally if I got that for free Id deal with the dent lol
 
You jammy beggar - not many of those around.

Can you get an L shaped bar (big allen key?) in from behind, inserted in through the tail of the silencer? If you can you could jerryrig a lever point and either push it or tap it back.

Paintless will be your best bet. Tough to get those guys to work on ANYTHING MC related. Guess they fear the replacement cost IF they screw it up. Been trying to get the guys here at work to do a small dent in the tank of my GS for YEARS. They won't bite.

Maybe I'm too fussy. :o

I'm going to try the heating/cold trick tonight but the metal is quite thick so that's a long shot I think. Regarding getting behind the dent, I think that would require cutting out the muffler end cap...which is possible but not easy.

AZR..Its the same karma that comes along when you pass up a 78 1000E ORIGINAL skunk and call a buddy and secure it for him..then 2 months later i find one for myself just 5 miles away from where i found the first one!! Yup Ed is an awesome man and helps as much as anyone so i say that karma has come to pay him his dividends. Your day will come soon enough too my friend!!
