A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I,m sorry about the screw, remember reading now about the purpose of
the screw. Still....... a good comparison. Well you did a great job and
I hope you can benefit from this concept and some how be able to put
it into a aftermarket upgrade.

Hey forget about the deadbeat thing, look at it being a smart business man, looking to benefit from applied priniple. Don't sell yourself short!!!!!

What would be the total component price aside from the $15 for the plans?

WOW!.... The first order?
Make it the first TWO orders, Cletus! Greg (Nerobro) and I live nearby each other, so we can get together and pop out two of your handy-dandy gizmos in an "afternoon of fun" (once we get the parts all in one place)!

By the way, I love the stick on thermometer! Another great idea! I guess if the plastic thermometer melts away that's a pretty good sign somethings wrong??:lol:;-)

Cletus, if you think about this from a product design standpoint, is there any way to get the size down? If you can make it fit into the size of a small Shindengen R/R, like our beloved SH-232 from the Honda CX500, CM400, etc, then I think that it'd be very much a viable product.

There aren't enough Suzuki GS's to really sell a lot of these, but if it's available for old Hondas and other bikes that use a similar three-phase stator setup, then there's much more of a market.

I might be able to squeeze one of these aluminum-boxed big guys under my battery box where the r/r fits on my bike, but many bikes leave much less space for it.

Pulling my hair out over it. But, the robust Bridges,SCRs and Capacitor which I use just use up so much space. I can eliminate the Capacitor from the design and make it an option which may be placed anywhere convenient and wired between ground and any switched positive. That would probably squeeze the thing into a 2"x4'x1.75" box. BTW The prototype has been on my bike about two weeks now and I'm quite happy with it - I have not shut down anywhere for lack of battery juice :-D . The original is shot!

 But this is the #1 GS weakness, the Achilles' Heel, El Problemo Numero Uno, etc. As long as there are GSs on the planet with touchy RR units ready to pop a diode at the slightest whiff of static electricity from the vinyl on the seat, there will be a demand for a robust unit. Quote from Perth's premier motorcycle electrician: "If it wasn't for Suzuki we would have been out of business years ago!" And yes, he was talking about GS Suzukis :( .

I have to admit, though, that the size of the unit has crossed my mind more than once while reading these posts; the area where the RR usually sits (at least on my old Katana 1100) is pretty limited, being sandwiched between the fuse box and the rear subframe rail.

I suppose the unit could always be relocated under the seat somewhere, but that probably means putting it into an area with less cooling air flow. Ah, the pros and cons...

Keep at it, Cletus! -- and don't be afraid to make executive decisions!

The other possibility is that you build the circuits in two separate smaller boxes that can be packaged near each other, but with added flexibility due to smaller size of each box...

Just a thought...

I'll buy a set of plans as soon as you publish them.

As far as size, please do not in any way compromise the performance of the basic design. Yes, smaller is better. But if some models of GSes will be difficult to fit, show changes as an adaption to the basic design. Having the option of two boxes might be nice. I personally would be inclined to but finned heat sinks and screw them on to the boxes with thermal paste between.

Thanks for doing this!

Tom

R/R Mounting

R/R Mounting

Hello and where do I buy a set of plans? Your doing a great service to the motorcycling public! I was thinking that if you could make it totally water tight you could mount it between the 2 front engine pipes behind the front shocks. More airflow than you could ever want. Just longer wires to connect. What do you think? You could have a connection for a digital voltmeter that mounted by the spedo and tach.

Hi Cletus, Which way are you going with this, a complete package to ship or sending out the schematics for building ourselves with a parts list. The
second way seems to me may have your hard work copied, yes??????
Are you still looking to make this universal. Worldpay does seem logical.
Do you think you would want an infringement policy with this item, also
maybe a disclaimer.

Cletus,

I just caught up with this thread today and it's great to see someone with your background whipping this baby up. I with Nerobro and Planecrazy: as soon as you have the plans ready to sell, I'm in.

Thanks for all the work-
Jon

Cletus, if you have a family member or close friend in the states you can just link a paypal account to their US bank account and have them send you checks. Of course, you have to trust them :-D

How to Pay for R\R plans

How to Pay for R\R plans

I would be HAPPY real HAPPY to send you a money order in whatever currency and you could send me the plans by Snail Mail if you would be interested. Wait for my money order first before mailing the plans.
So you make sure you get paid.

Cletus,

Will you be able to include a supplier list in your plans? I've found it hard to find exact electronics parts sometimes.

Thanks!
Jon

Yes, it's all there! ....none of the parts should be difficult to get, heck I bought everything for the prototype off-the-shelf right here in Trinidad!

Cletus,
I live in Canada. Can I pay you in Canadian dollars? If so, how much?

Paul
