DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

differences between exhausts on a GS1000E and a GS1000G

I would like to get a stock exhaust for my GS1000G and have found a GS1000E exhaust for sale. The part numbers are different, the GS1000E is a 14310-49001 (RH Muffler) and the same for a GS1000G is a 14310-49010. The pipes also have different numbers but I guess that's just so they fit the different muffler. My question is, would the GS1000E fit and look OK on a GS1000G, it looks like the GS1000E exhaust has longer pipes, so maybe its more sporty and effects the torque characteristics.

Cheers

The rear hanger location might be different, but I'm only going by when I put a V&H 4-1 from a 1000E on a 1000G. :indecisiveness:

Talk to Salty Monk. He had an E system on his G. I think the center stand bumper was different, and maybe the hangers, but otherwise the systems were very similar if not identical.

I had an early GS1000G system on my chain drive '79 GS1000 and it was a perfect bolt on with no issues other than some minor things like the brake lever indent on the right shield was in a slightly different spot but didn't interfere with anything. The hangers were also in the exact same spot. None of the "G" parts are common between the 2 systems, even the heat shields are different so you will need all the parts except for maybe the clamps. That being said I'm assuming that if the they are interchangeable in one direction they should be interchangeable in the other. This is a photo of the "G" system on a chain drive 1000, not really an "E" but no difference in the frame or exhaust. Big difference is on "E" exhaust the center pipes (2 & 3) are attached to the muffler while on the "G" the 2 outer pipes (1&4) are attached to the mufflers.

That's a nice looking bike. Thanks for your advice, just waiting to hear about postage costs now.

Hi Ed, what's a center stand bumper, a rubber bit to stop it clanging?

I had an E system on my G. The only issue was I couldn't use the heat shield on the right side. It interfered with the brake pedal. Mounted in the same mounting holes.

Dave. The centre stand bumper is a large rubber bushing (looks like a ball) that is slipped over the arm of the stand. It prevents the stand from hitting the exhaust or other parts and clanging around. My exhaust is slightly different now but it still works.

For some strange reason Flickr thinks your photo of the GS1000G was pornography, well I suppose it does look damn sexy!
