Differences in GS1000l vs GS 1000ec frames comments

okay guys here is the deal i purchased a GS 1000L thinking it was a GS1000 but after checking the vin number found out it was an L. DID find a GS1000ec frame and purchased it now that the frames are side by side i cannot tell there is a difference. They have different part # s and and looks like the triple trees are different as well. The GS1000ec starts with 1st 2 numbers are 50 the GS 1000L. Start with 70 any info is greatly appreciated.

I think that the steering head angles are different, due to the difference in forks. The L has leading axle, the E does not

the coils brackets are not the same, side cover mounting points, helmet holder, seat lock.
probably other thing too, it's been a while since I saw a L frame. on base model GS1000 the serial number start with a 1, e model with a 5.

I was wondering if i purchased a frame that i really did not need? minor mounting brackets no worries,or are the triple trees the difference? and like you said forks are different. All that being said the main difference is the triple trees. I am building a bare bones back road bike for twisties.

From old brochures the L frame have 1 degree of more rake.The L triple tree have less offset. Both the E and the L are dinosaurs compared to what it's available now. If you put longer shocks it will raise the rear and you will have the same rake has a E.

Okay that makes since i have both the frames side by side all the brackets and everything is the same .I think will do the mod where you move rear shocks forward .

I'd be surprised if the "rake" of the frame was different. "Rake" in quotes because frame doesn't really have a rake, you can't measure steering head angle until the bike is on it's suspension and wheels. If the frames are identical but the "L" forks are longer, or the shocks shorter, that will result in more rake.

The leading axle forks result in less trail, other things equal, so the the "L" triples have less offset to compensate.

Since were talking E vs L, I'm guessing its a 79 chain drive L? I was under the impression that the L frame was different (lower) in the seat area, unless that was on later ones.

e model shocks are 13.25, eye to clevis.

Okay Gentlemen what would be best front end to use, 79 e model or i found a complete 1100 80,81model with triple tree, forks, wheel, dual disk or try to find a bandit frt end ? any opinions on this will be appreciated .

You can use many forks for the GS 1000.
I've used GSXR 1100 G/H, GSXR 1100 K and best of all Yamaha R6 first gen.
