A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Drain bolt size

'81 GS750L. I looked at the fiche and tried to use the stock number deciphering method (#09247-14001). I suppose it's 14mm, but what about the length? Found a thread in the search that states it as a 21mm socket. Is this the same for my bike? Seems standard for these bikes. Thanks.

I have a 1982 GS450GAZ. The oil drain plug is the same size as my spark plugs, 21mm. The nice thing I've seen about my bike is there are only about five different size nuts and bolts on the bike all in the 10-21mm range.

Edit: I bought a 21mm spark plug socket for my socket wrench at Murray's for $3 and used it on my oil drain plug. The quality is ok, the metal doesn't bend, or mar, or strip on it but the rubber insert falls out alot and probably needs to be glued in.

oil drain bolt

Save your self some time and headaches now and pull the oil pan and have the drain hole sleeved with a steel insert it will never strip then. Cuz the one you have will its just a matter of when.

Thanks everyone. I bought a 21mm socket today to drain what oil remains. I'm going to adjust the valves this weekend. Have all the reqd tools and gaskets and such. Almost ready for some reassembly. Soon it will be time to try the start switch and see what happens. It's been a process over the last few weeks. I'm doing my best to be like a little Doctor.........you know, they have little patients. Or is it patience?:-k
