    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Dry clutch conversion?

I am using the transmission form a 550 and had read about suzuki clutches running dry, (Britten v1000) Now I am no experienced mechanic, but I am already coming up with some issues with this idea. First off the oil fill cap is right over the clutch, so there must be essential oil passages to the clutch housing? also I am having trouble seeing any substantial benefit from this conversion on a road running canyon "racer". It seems that a dry setup would result in frequent clutch replacements?
 
It may not be impossible but not worth the effort. The early limited edition GSXRs had them and some of the Ducs. Your cases were built for a wet clutch and getting around it will be tough.
 
more trouble than its worth, the engine needs oil, the clutch needs oil, the crankcase and gearbox bearings need oil.the clutch would fry in minutes

Nevertheless, it would be an interesting challenge. It's not worth doing of course (as stated above) but then neither was climbing Mount Everest in my view. If you have the time I wouldn't mind following a post describing how to do it.

they said a gs1000 window clutch cover is impossible, i managed it, so maybe anything is possible if you got the time,expertise and the money to fulfill your idea

Is the clutch basket/ assembly identical on GS models?
 
A dry clutch on a GS is one of the oddest ideas I've seen yet. Reminds me of the thread about the guy wanting an extended swingarm on a shafty. Go for it and post lots of photos!!!:D

Vintage race DOHC honda cb750's had a dry clutch. There are some still in circulation, I'm sure with lots of time and money invested its possible.

I'd sure like to hear it running!!

Even with crazy money to blow I doubt it could be done on a GS. There are various non-clutch parts inside the clutch cavity that need oil, plus the transmission shafts, clutch basket bearings, etc all need oil too.

Been done for years.... All GP bikes have had dry clutches since beginning of time.
This is Suzuki's version of a GS1000 dry clutch
Both my Suzuki RGV SP's have dry clutches...
