DYNA S IGNITION TIMING

Can anybody help an infidel with a timing light? I have a 1985 GS1150 ES that I have been trying to get rid of a part throttle (2500 rpm) stumble on for some time. After playing with Float levels, needle heights, Mixture screws etc. I decided to double check my ignition timing and make sure the Advance was working properly. I am running a Dyna S ignition, and green coils with and advance assy from an 82 GS1100. I am setting 1-4 timing at the 1-4 mark (about .25-.375? to the right of the F mark) on the advance assy with the advance at full (rotated full clockwise). I double-checked this both with a test light and dynamically with my timing light. My problem is that I when I set the 1-4 timing right on the mark by rotating the whole breaker plate, I cannot seem to get the 2-3 timing close with the adjustment left in the right hand module. I believe I am doing everything according to Dynatek?s instructions but I am wondering if I am just misreading their instructions or if there might be a problem with this advance assy. Though it does seem to be working fine. My ?stumble? just happens to be hitting right when ignition should be at full advance. I'm no expert but I do have a Dyna S on my 1100 and I slept in a Holiday Inn last night. Isn't it possible to move the 2-3 and 1-4 pick up sensors independently of the plate by loseining the two screws that hold them to the plate? I'm at work now and not looking at mine but thats what I seem to remember.

I use a Dyna S for a trigger as well and yes the two pickups may be set independently.

Yes you can move them independently. I thought I wrote that somewhere? Must have forgot that part. I did try to move the 1-4 pickup on the breaker plate to give myself the added rotation needed for the 2-3 pickup. but it didn?t seem to be enough. It is like I am at the end of the slot on the 1-4 pickup likewise for the 2-3 pickup. I started wondering if I was using the wrong timing marks or something. But they are pretty clearly marked. I am going to tear it all apart and try to get as much as I can out of the 1-4 pickup and see if that gets it. :?

Well if your mech-advance is anything like mine the 2-3 line is a timing mark and not a firing mark. It tell when the 2-3 pistons are at TDC.

Just lay a ruler across the marks and you can see the differance.

Isnt the firing mark the one about 1/4" to 3/8" to the left of the timing mark? It seems like the 1-4 timing mark is in close proximity to the 1-4 stamping(numbers) whereas the 2-3 mark is further to the left of the stamping. My memory is not so good and I don't have it apart right now.

The line with the T is the timing mark for the cams at TDC, the 2nd line (F) to the right is the firing mark at idle and the 3rd line farther to the right is the firing mark when the engine is at a higher rpm. The advance assy turns clockwise.

As for the T mark on 2&3 that is 180 degrees from the T mark on 1&2.
