If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Engine sezied Please help!

I'v just finished removing all the valves and none are bent.
But please take a look at the picture, exhaust side, it's got carbon/heat signs.
Could this be the cause of my valve cover gasket foes. If I kept the engine at low rpm while riding all was ok and when I rev'd it it would start leaking like crazy. No Blue Smoke from the pipes.
I will clean all the carbon deposit then make a leak test and lap as needed.
What else should I do, change the seals? Guides?

Back it the engine seizing . I can't figure it out. With the head removed the pistons move freely. Crank case sprocket has all it's teeth. The valve are not bent, valve gaps where ok, cam's /sprocket are ok. I could turn the engine 3 times before it jamed. No marks of valves hitting the piston. Chain tensioner was installed correctly and working perfectly.

I'm stumped! And more ideas?

When you say no valves are bent how did you determine that, and when you say you could turn the engine three times, is that three complete revolutions of the crank?

Is this the valve that wasn't coming back up cleanly earlier?
- I thought it was cylinder 1 but turned out it was cylinder 4, they both go up and down at the same time.

- I removed all of them and inspected them. I taped the end and all practically fell off except for the gouged one
- Yes 3 complete rotation then it jam'd on the 4th

Just looking at them is not enough, if it is a vlv likely it's only one, the quick way to see if a vlv's bent is to roll it on a flat surface, you will see instantly if its bent.

Did it and they are not bent. Even the one with the gouge is not bent.

I will be removing the oil pan to see if there are visible chunks of metal. If my valve jam'd with a tiny chip of metal.....

You either have a bad crank bearing or you have a damaged cam chain guide.

This is what I found in the oil pan.
Its a bearing but I dont know which one. Can some one tell me which bearing it is?

Are those pieces steel or iron? How large is that orange cup?

It a peanut butter jar and the bits are iron.

How long of a job is it to replace those bearings?
Do I need special tools?
I`ll be dismantling the engine tomorrow.

this has to be done by a press pin crank specialist....not good news.
would be quicker and cheaper to buy a used crank.

wait till the engines a part and let us know what you find.

Bummer about the destruction, but at least you are getting closer to finding the root cause of the issues.

There is a GSR member from Quebec that breaks bikes. Can't remember his name off the top of my head but I've bought stuff from him before and he seems like a nice guy. Hopefully he has some spares (and someone can provide his name).

I`m down to my last bolt but it does not want to budge. IT`s the one inside the oil pan A #8 bolt. It twists, like a torsion bar and twists back.
It`s my last bolt and, FFS I dont want to break it..

What should I do?

I need to get the sucker opened so I can find out what bearing is busted.

Thank you for the information!!

Found the bad bearing. It`s the 2nd one on the crack shaft.
Since I do not have the presses to fix it, and the lack of knowledge, Guess I need to buy an other one.

I`ll gut the guy a shout.

In the mean time I`ll start another thread to ask if there are alternatives to the crack shaft, Welded, APE rebuild etc.
This bike is becoming my baby and I do not mind putting a little extra $$$ to get quality.

What would cause a bearing to disintegrate like that?
I thought these GS`s where built like tanks.

Sorry to read about your troubles but sure respect the effort you're putting into your bike. It'll be a whole lot of satisfaction when you get her back together.

Effort, hell yes. I'v never dismantled an engine before but like you said the ROI will be satisfaction. Vroom Vroom!
