    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Does anyone know how these RR's cope with less than stock load?

Does that still lead to more being shunted back to the Stator / overheating of the stator or what?

I'm trying to work out what would happen with this setup if you turned off the headlight (so 55w less load on the system).

The decision I am trying to make is whether to take the headlight switch loop out of the system when installing the new parts on my Skunk which does have the headlight switch. I rarely ride with it off (only accidentally) but I have been known to forget to turn it back on occasionally.

Hey Dan,

Do you really need the headlight switch to work? Why not just wire it "ON" all the time? Then perhaps put in one of those relay mods that turn off the headlight when the starter is used, if you feel that is necessary.

I don't really need it Cliff but I want to mess with the Loom as little as possible.... I guess it might be a very simple mod such as disabling the clutch safety (i.e. the connectors are correct & just a case of plugging them in differently).

I am also interested because of a Mod I'm doing for a friend to my old 1000G - he wants to fit HID headlight (rated 35w) to free up some power for his heated vest so this would be a similar thing to a lesser degree.

Well, all that unused power has to go somewhere. A computer fan mounted to the r/r might help, but I don't know what to do about the extra heat that might make it back to the stator. It's too bad Suzuki didn't design some oil squirters to cool the stator like they did for other engine internals on the oil cooled bikes.

Best to ask Pos (Jim) but I don't think the stator gets return current, I the extra power just gets shunted to ground and makes heat. The FET should be able to handle it since its designed to handle many more watts than our stators can generate.
 
Ed - that's the answer that I'm hoping for..... :D

If it only generates heat in the new RR I'm not too worried.
